SNSD To Appear On “Live! With Kelly” & “The Late Show With David Letterman”

SNSD fans are over the moon with this news, but I would be scared shitless, honestly.

=====

Live! With Kelly

On TVGuide.com‘s episode listings, Girls’ Generation is listed as an upcoming guest on the February 1st episode of ‘Live! With Kelly‘ (formerly ‘The Morning Show’ and ‘Live! with Regis and Kelly’), a morning talk show hosted by Kelly Ripa. An addition to Girls’ Generation, this episode will also feature singer Jennifer Lopez as well as Howie Mandel as the guest co-host.

The Late Show With David Letterman

Earlier, allkpop reported that Girls’ Generation would be appearing on the American talk show program, ‘Live! With Kelly‘. It’s just been revealed that the girls will also be performing on CBS‘s late-night program, ‘The Late Show with David Letterman‘.

Live! With Kelly’s primary audience is going to be middle-aged housewives, so I don’t think that’s the demographic SNSD are looking for at all. I’m honestly unclear as to how being on Live! With Kelly isn’t going to be awkward.

The Late Show With David Letterman is a legitimately mainstream score, but the audience is primarily adults, so I guess we’ll see what the response is from them, because if SNSD truly want to go mainstream and don’t want to end up in the teenybopper category, adults are the demographic they will have to reach. It should be amusing to watch David Letterman‘s reactions, as he has a reputation of showing which musical artists he appreciates and which ones were forced on him.

I assume they are performing “The Boys” since it was basically made for this, but there are so many pitfalls.

1) Everybody except Jessica, Tiffany, and Seohyun have clear accents during their verses. The chorus isn’t that bad because it can be auto-tuned to shit, but it’s harder to hide as they go into their individual versus. Sunny is barely understandable in recording, how the fuck is she going to sing live? Could be an adventure.

2) I hope they come out with something sexy and fierce, because the pop culture environment in America now is such that synchronized moves by idol groups are cliche and awkward unless they are aggressive or sexual in nature.

3) If they perform the breakdown that starts ~3:35, I think I’m going to die of embarrassment. It’s so fucking terrible. Please skip it.

—–

While I hope they do well and gain mainstream attention as a result, I think that’s far too hopeful. Personally, I just hope it’s not catastrophic, and then they can move up from there.

While this is an exciting event, I am actually really nervous for them. I am a huge SNSD fan and this news horrified me. This is especially because there is a high chance of them performing “The Boys” with engrish. I don’t know how the audience will react.

Obviously Gee and Oh are not considered, but they don’t really have any high impact songs to show off. Genie is the closest, while ITNW is too childish sounding. There’s always RDR. I don’t really look forward to SNSD in America and kind of hoped that they would just stay in Asia.

    • IATFB 01/25/2012 at 8:17 AM -

Pretty sure they are already organizing to invade the audience.

    • apinkfeeling 01/25/2012 at 3:38 PM -

I wish RDR was their introduction single in the U.S. It’s perfect.

The Boys is so fucking embarrassing.

If it’s like their The Boys performances in Japan, either they’re gonna lipsynch the full song, or just Taeyeon, Jessica, Tiffany and SeoHyun will sing live.

I can actually understand Sunny pretty well, the worst pronunciations are definetely Hyoyeon’s and Yoona’s.

    • IATFB 01/25/2012 at 8:18 AM -

      They can’t lip sync though.

Nobody would take them seriously after that.

They should go with “Run Devil Run”. Loved that song.

    • apinkfeeling 01/25/2012 at 3:39 PM -

YEESS! And the choreography is great. They never should have hired Teddy.

I hope someone screams the whole time like in one of their shows last month.

I had the same reaction when I heard the news – mostly concern over how awkward this could be. Letterman is a big deal, but they’re targeting the wrong audience.

And “The Boys” sucks, so if nothing else, it will be bad just because they picked that crappy song to perform. I agree with the “Run Devil Run” choice. Much better song that’s more likely to appeal to a wider audience.

On the other hand, Letterman is a dirty old man, so he’ll enjoy it. Probably get a few of his congratulatory gropes in after the performance. And I’m sure a bunch of SNSD fans will probably take over the studio audience, so I would expect a decent crowd reaction.

The Live With Kelly appearance has the most potential to be awkward.

I would be excited if it was any song besides ‘The Boys’. That song sucks so damn hard. Genie or Run Devil Run would be more acceptable even if they do it in Korean. I’d have much less second hand embarrassent.

I’m assuming their fans are already camping out for the (free?) tickets, so silently stunned old white people in the audience shouldn’t be a problem

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. That is how I see kpop, all these groups have it good in Asia, they have fans, making money and whatnot. They have fans in America and europe, the middle east and even Africa,I just don’t really get the obsession with America when their music and genre is so niche.

And plus SNSD,really? Wonder how much SM forked out to be on both shows.

    • apinkfeeling 01/25/2012 at 3:41 PM -

I constantly get the feeling that KPOP (and arguably Korea in general) crave recognition from the West in any shape or form.

      • cgirl98 01/25/2012 at 4:11 PM -

It’s not a feeling..it’s the truth. They want that global spotlight, crave it….but in their chasing it too much and too early…they might just lose it. They hit a peak and crash

    • IATFB 01/25/2012 at 5:20 PM -

I said this before, but it’s a dick waving contest.

They want to be able to say, “We were the first to chart in America!”

They can’t be this stupid, as far as business goes.

    *yawn*

wake me up when their sex tapes are released. 5 black men.

Not going to lie, the only time I really ever watch Late Night is when I’m slightly buzzed. I’m going to have so much fun pointing and laughing.

  11. YangInggrid 01/25/2012 at 2:41 PM -

this is really entertaining, seeing them providing themselves to be chopped. Oh…no offence, I like to see some hard working artists work their ass off…but this is just too obvious. I just don’t understand why SNSD just stay in Asia and pimp themselves like usual and milk away the money…Look at their senior BoA n Seven, they r perfect examples. SM need to get their fact straighten.

But gosh, just imagine the Korean Headlines…
“SNSD the world idol..” even LeeTeuk predicted that Yoona is going a blast in USA. Really? I think he is having too much BB cream, because USA is having Beyonce, Skylar Grey, Britney and all.
SNSD USA album will end up in some Korean Laundrette n mini markets that u can buy along a sack of rice.

    • IATFB 01/25/2012 at 5:21 PM -

That is essentially why I think they’re doing it, so they can say shit like that and promote themselves later.

  12. CheesyChua 01/25/2012 at 3:50 PM -

Gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out. I gotta give it to SME for shelling out the bucks to get these spots though.

    • IATFB 01/25/2012 at 5:22 PM -

Can’t wait to see articles acting as if David Letterman hand picked them or something. :o

  13. fariceo 01/25/2012 at 4:23 PM -

wow I cant wait to see how this shit goes down
I watch the late show with David Letterman all the time I wonder how they got in such a important show
well they are already betting the wonder girls+the fat one with this move
probably this is the first time I’m going to hear this whores live

  14. msorange31 01/25/2012 at 5:04 PM -

Well oigoodness this going to be sooooo awkwrd if theygo on theyre i really like snsd but there are alot of big stars over here and seeing them get embarresed like that makes me thinkthey should stay in asia. Plus korea is a very proud country so the took one of asia best groups and puut em ova here to play. But im wo4iedd people will criticize.. and then ugh … everything will be a disaster

  15. IATFB 01/25/2012 at 5:15 PM -

Surprised at the amount of people who agree with me.

A stark contrast from the comments I see on the mainstream sites and on Korean articles.

  16. Old_Breed 01/25/2012 at 6:36 PM -

I think for the Live With Kelly show, even if the main audience are housewives, if they like it they can show it to their daughters. As for letterman, it’s an adult show, with sexual innuendos for jokes here and there. The male audience will probably just be fapping to how hot SNSD are.

So aside from the awkward performance that may or may not (most likely may) happen, I want to see what a SNSD concert will be like filled with half pre-teen girls and half too-old-to-be-around-preteen guys.

My real opinion – when unknown artists get on shows like these, they only get like 2-3 minutes at the end of the show, less if they’re running out of time. Lets face it, they won’t be the stars of the show, the big names in hollywood will be the focus. I’m already prepared for SM to blow this out of proportion, but kudos to GG, (GG = 1, 2NE1 = yet to be rated, WG = 1st time failed, so 0)

    • IATFB 01/26/2012 at 1:19 AM -

I dunno man, my mom never like recorded morning shows for my sister to watch or anything like that.

Yeah, people are acting like they are gonna be guests next to Jennifer Lopez but I’m pretty sure they are just the musical guests at the end of the show.

  17. pominitslut 01/25/2012 at 7:43 PM -

Please don’t let it be The Boys. (but I bet that’ what they’ll perform)

  18. contagious 01/25/2012 at 7:44 PM -

    Lol, this is just hilarious.
    1. I wonder how much SM had to pay to get gigs on these shows, probably everything that SNSD had earned 2011?

    2. Why Kelly though? I mean who really watches her plus she downgraded ever since Regis left. Lettterman isn’t so shabby and let’s not forget he’s an asian white man, in another words he’s a perv. And it’s very hard to get tickets to a Letterman recording so their fans have to probably wait outside. I wish they could have more age appropriate audience with shows like Ellen or if it has to be late night then Jimmy or Conan. Just imagine if they could perform on SNL? Hahaha…

    3. No one will remember them. Lol

    • pominitslut 01/25/2012 at 11:37 PM -

Agree with you with the Ellen & Conan thing. I mean they’re not funny but they know how to communicate well with their guests and have a good time with them. David is old and grumpy. And btw I remember like 2010 or so Ellen wanted to have Asian/foreign artists in her show.

I don’t know what I would hope for more, them not being remembered or them being remembered but mocked.

      • IATFB 01/26/2012 at 1:22 AM -

Sorta like Ellen and Conan. :o

Conan more so, but Ellen has funny bits I’ve seen her do with like David Beckham and shit.

        • pominitslut 01/26/2012 at 8:02 AM -

I wanna see her prank the shit out of snsd tbh.

    • IATFB 01/26/2012 at 1:21 AM -

      1. I don’t think it would be that expensive or they would just have to use connections. It’s a big deal, but it’s not like they are performing at the Grammy’s where you have to earn it with a nomination.

      2. Actually, I think Conan or Fallon would probably be better. The audience target demo is younger. You’re right.

  19. contagious 01/31/2012 at 7:49 PM -

Ok, I thought I let everyone know how the show went…lol
Just finished it and I was totally embarrassed for them, the song was too long or should I say the music was too long. I mean they didn’t even sing enough and you could barely hear them with that loud music. It was like they came to showcase their dancing ability rather than their singing…if so they were in the wrong show ‘So you think you can dance’ would be better for them. By the way, they didn’t say a word go figure and Dave who usually greets his musical guests by either kiss/shake/hug was looking awkward and instead gave them a football.
Overall…great dancing not enough singing/talking. Like I said forgettable.

    • IATFB 01/31/2012 at 10:53 PM -

Honestly don’t think it was that bad.

Just…not going to vault them into the mainstream conscious.
