Ask Asian Junkie: What do you think of MOGEF?

The answer to this should have been a bit obvious, no? Still, I found the questions interesting.

What is your opinion on MOGEF?

They suck. I think basically all censorship organizations suck.

Do you think banning is really necessary when there are dramas saying/depicting the same things they want to ban from songs?

The “we must protect the kids” charade goes on in every culture and it’s all hilariously delusional because kids are aware of all the bad shit that surrounds them anyway.

It’s especially amusing because the bans are seemingly random, with some sexual and violent references getting passes and some things getting banned for one or two questionable words or because it makes people feel uncomfortable.

And do you think banning month old songs and even year old songs will make a difference when they’re not even in promotion anymore?

- from someone who thinks MOGEF should sit the fuck down.

Hahaha.

That shit is just a public relations move in retrospect.

It’s especially funny when that happens to a popular group’s song after it has already run its course. I’m sure there’s no bias there.

Never.

  1. So what do you think SHOULD be censored?

  2. I think they are full of it on most of their bans. I remember they banned a Bi Rain mv because they werent wearing seat belts in the mv shooting.

  3. They should ban anything potentially triggering like suicide, cutting, purging and glamorization of abuse of any kind. Then there are the obvious ones like racist lyrics/expressions/imagery.

Anything else is annoying and unnecessary.

  4. You know… if they banned shit that was legitimately “not good” for kids, like songs with the f-bomb being said every ten seconds or MVs with blood and gore reminiscent of Saw and Hostel… then yeah. Protect the children.

But they’re banning songs that only mention alcohol when actors and actresses on k-dramas drink soju and throw up on the streets about 40% of the time.

There’s a reason that ratings for music and tv shows exist, though. So the existence of the MOGEF is sort of redundant. It was probably created to give people jobs since the economy in Korea is in the shitter.
