In the surprise news of the week, apparently Jin Akanishi‘s single, “Sun Burns Down“, topped two Billboard charts for the week of February 11th, landing at #1 on “Hot Singles Sales” and “Hot Dance Singles Sales“.

Time to flip out, right?

Well, not exactly. Both charts rank artists by physical single sales and digital bundles, and it’s only one of three components that make up the “Hot 100” (the one that matters). To prove the point, both singles charts are not even found on www.billboard.com, but rather at www.billboard.biz, which requires membership to view.

To be honest, it’s far more noteworthy that he’s been on the “Dance/Club Play Songs” chart for seven weeks running with “Test Drive“.

In all honesty though, I feel bad for dumping water on this fire, because the Japanese media haven’t given this hardly any coverage at all. Perhaps they realize it’s not that big of a deal, but considering their current insecurity over K-pop, and that K-pop’s representative girl group is also releasing music in America, you’d think they’d at least mention Jin Akanishi charting alongside them despite little hype, right?

Wrong.

Then again, such is life when the Japanese government doesn’t have a vested interest in his success.

I prefer his song over the crap they are celebrating about.

Thought it was pretty basic and they aren’t even showing much of his face in some of these music videos.

      Super weird promotion.

It’s to trick people into thinking he’s not Asian. Such a shame, since his face is so nice.

That’s weird to me, because I haven’t met a girl who didn’t find him at least okay looking.

Most think he’s hot and I’m talking about women who aren’t into Asian pop.

    Sad but true.
But what bothers me the most is the crappy management he’s being receiving ==
So with that on mind, it’s actually a great achievement he’s even n the BB charts.
