I recently noticed that Soompi was pimping this new invention of theirs, a Soompi Twitter dedicated to only JYP Entertainment related articles.
Welcome to the official @soompi JYP Nation Twitter! Follow for the latest updates on JYP, Wonder Girls, 2AM, 2PM, Miss A, JLim, JOO, and San E!
Apparently it just started on April 5th, and quite frankly I think they should expand this to other companies. Or if they have already, then they should make the options clearly available, because I can’t find it on their fucking home page.
Many companies with different factions of readers do this because the interests of their readers are compartmentalized to one particular aspect of their site. For example, sports specific sites are almost required to use this, because fans don’t always want to know about the minute details of every other team, but rather just the team they are a fan of. Hence, sites like MLB Trade Rumors have separate RSS, Twitter, and Facebook for all the teams.
The downside of this is that it has the potential to divide the attention of the audience, which is why most popular sites don’t have separate Twitter accounts for every category they write about. However, this doesn’t necessarily apply in K-pop, because for whatever illogical reason, fans of K-pop stan entire companies and not just groups or individuals. Therefore, I think it only makes sense to treat the companies as teams of sorts.
I’m not sure if that was what Soompi’s thought process was exactly, but that’s what I would have concluded, and that’s why what Soompi is doing makes perfect sense to me.
Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see whether the idea works out or not, as it not only depends on the idea itself but how it’s implemented. As it stands, I think the idea is a step in the right direction.
