Okay, gonna be honest with you, I wanted to hate this. When I saw that part of their concept involved vampires, I literally rolled my fucking eyes and sighed, “Oh Christ.” I’ve had it up to my neck in this vampire bullshit, and to see it penetrate K-pop was a sad day for me. Needless to say, I wasn’t excited.
After watching 4minute‘s music video for “Volume Up” though, I was quite relieved, both because the vampire aspect of the theme wasn’t prominent and because my semen was spewed all over my computer like Randy Marsh from “South Park“.

I say this time and time again, but while people want to hate HyunA, she has “it”. Every time the group is on the screen, she stands out, whether she’s in the corner or in the middle. It’s not that she’s overwhelmingly beautiful, but she does draw attention effectively, and in the attention economy that is the entertainment world, that’s why she rules beyond her talent level.
Besides the fact that they look amazing, I found everything else to be visually appealing as well. They seemed to use the vampire concept more for their set design and as an excuse to wear these sexy outfits made of dark (black) and aggressive (red) colors. Awesome decision.

My favorite part of the music video was probably a dance sequence towards the end:

Is this even supposed to be subliminal? Because it’s not.
The first thing that jumped into my head when I saw it was, “They are angrily and seductively jerking some dude’s cock off on their chest.”

4minute isn’t my favorite group, but this comeback concept and music video looks like a hit so far. It has sex appeal, but it should appeal to a wide range of people because it was both conceptually and stylistically solid.
Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
niceeeee
“It’s not that she’s overwhelmingly beautiful, but she does draw attention effectively”
Way to be PC about it. Just say she’s a massive slore.
I <3 her.
That’s not what I meant in that case, though. :o
HyunA dose stand out like a candle in this video.
Overall, I thought the video was Hot Hot Hot!
“Every time the group is on the screen, she stands out, whether she’s in the corner or in the middle.”
It could be more or less because the other pair of members look so much alike.
I know it’s said so many times, but honestly I still cannot name the other four. At least one of the two that had the short hair has it longer now.
I think they look different, they are just relatively basic.
If popularity was fair, they would be rewarded for this concept.
Far superior than their previous shit.
Who knows with popular culture though.
:o
I’ll go back and finish watching it then…
I actually loved them during their Hot Issue days, then they quickly began to feel like the poor man’s 2NE1. I’m not saying they’re the same (they’re not really…) I just…their songs are never memorable.
Other than MUZIK and HUH and maybe Jump[ing?], I don’t remember anything about them. :(
The video is good I guess, but the song just turned me off.
I only remember “Hot Issue” and this.
I was just being polite.
Wasn’t Jumping from Kara? Anyways just proves your point that you don’t pay attention to them.
Me too. The song was quite annoying, maybe it will grow on me but I doubt it.
I was pleasantly surprised by this song.I didnt like the chorus but the more i listened to hit the more it grew on me.
HYUNA IS STILL A TRY HARD.
It sounds like the Korean techno version of careless whisper.
I’m never gonna dance again~
Guilty feet have got no rhythm~
Don’t insult George Michael like that. :o
“Is this even supposed to be subliminal?”
The Koreans need to learn from the Japanese about how to pull-off subliminal sexual references.
For instance, you’ll never guess what this Japanese album cover is really suggesting, it’s so subtle:

That cover was awesome.
What’s even more awesome is that they had a giant billboard of it hanging in the middle of Tokyo.
Gotta love Japan.
Song is ok…
Vid is pretty good
Hyunah is hot as fuck..
Fat/ugly girls always gonna hate on hyunah.. its how they roll..
I only liked one song on this album
These trannies are flawless.
CubeEnt better learn from this and keep doing something like this. Stuff like this works! After ’09 (whenever they debuted), they have this cycle of “meh” songs, then “DAYUM”, then back to another “meh” single again. I my opinion, they didn’t have a lot of good songs. Like, on every album they put out, I only like 1 or 2,…sometimes 3 songs in each one.
