Superstar K3‘s Chris Golightly has been sued for fraud and intimidation after allegedly not paying back a former girlfriend a total of around $28,000.
A representative from the Seoul Songpa Police Department revealed on April 20th, “Chris Golightly has been sued by ‘A’ for charges of fraud and intimidation.”
According to the police, Chris Golightly borrowed around 32,000,000 Won (around $28,000 USD) from A, which he never paid back. When A asked him to pay back the money she lent him, he sent her a text message saying, “If you sue me, I won’t let you get away with it“, thereby threatening and intimidating her.
The representative revealed, “He has admitted to borrowing money from her and sending her a text. However, he has said that he had no intentions of not paying her back, or to threaten her. The police determined that his actions were enough to warrant an arrest, but the court dismissed the application for an arrest warrant. The police are worried he could commit a retaliatory crime, so they are proceeding with the investigation with reinforcements. However, since he is an American citizen, if he leaves the country, the investigation cannot continue; therefore, they have placed a restriction on him from leaving the country.”
So in addition to being accused of pumping and dumping a bunch of groupies, now he’s being sued for not paying back money.
And so his troubles in Korea continue on.

I can see lending a friend money, but lending money to a significant other that you’re not married to? Yeah … that’s probably gonna end bad.

The odd thing is that he hasn’t actually done anything that outlandishly egregious. So why does this get so much media coverage? Well, two things:
1) It’s basically the Korean establishment sending the message to Korean girls that they shouldn’t fuck foreigners. Like a “look what happens when you have sex with these stupid fucks” message. I mean, seriously, if that wasn’t the issue, why is this even a story?
2) Chris Golightly has gone out of his way to show Korea that a lot of the foreigners in their country are … well … douches. I mean, let’s be fair to Korea here, if you’ve ever read one of the dime-a-dozen English Teacher/Military Personnel blogs, you’d know that a lot of the foreigners in Korea are assholes just there: 1) for pussy 2) because of greed 3) against their will.

Given that, I’m split. It would be nice if the Korean media didn’t target him specifically because he’s a foreigner, but it would also be nice if foreigners in Korea didn’t give the Korean media so much ammunition to pursue this agenda.

1. Even though Seoul has lots of international tourists and business people they are still not as used to western people as some might think. I remember walking down from Namsan tower and ending up in a non-touristic area and people actually stopped just to stare at me. Also our korean partner told us that some bars don’t let western people in because they think western looking = american (soldiers). Sometimes they use excuses like “sry, we’re full” and sometimes they even have signs stating that americans are not welcomed. Pretty harsh shit, I am glad that I have not faced a situation like that, though.
But I must admit that I am actually quite prejudiced as well since I grew up in a city where mentioned soldiers were stationed and saw violence every single night I went out – it was so bad that the clubs/bars had special security measures for them (they had to leave their IDs at the entrance in case the clubs need to call the police or military police). I have also met quite some nice and decent people but unfortunately they were the exception.

That type of song and dance is bad in Thailand until some places did the same as by not allow only any tourists/foreigners in. In a way it’s the country’s fault for being so damn lenient about prostitution and drug trafficking since it’s technically illegal of such things there.
Definitely not all but a lot of foreigners from western countries seem to build up this dumb ass ego thinking they hot shit. Getting into trouble, doing shit they know/or gotten away with, is very irritating. But back in their home country they’re no fucking body so I guess the reason is pretty much that.

As for the threat, it was written in korean and had a much harsher meaning than the english translation in that article. More akin to ‘i will get you’, ‘you will regret it’ etc.

Well he’s mainly being sued for threatening but um… sorry I wouldn’t lend anyone that much money if I had it unless I wrote out a contract and we both signed it (or I just don’t expect to get it back) I make a big deal when people don’t pay me back $5 (people might say “oh $5 is no big deal’ well it’s a big deal to me,) now how am I gonna expect someone to pay me back $28,000?
If he had not try to threaten her, he wouldn’t be sued and well.. (if it goes through) wouldn’t have to still pay her back. I just think she’s foolish to lend someone that much.
