Ask Asian Junkie is back after a bit of a hiatus, so we’re going to ease back into things with a simple question.
Why do people focus on “the face” of the group even if they aren’t the most talented or interesting member?
Uh … because everybody loves beautiful people? I know I do and I bet you do as well.
Unlike most though, I just don’t lie about it.
Look, there are very few in the entertainment world who could look like Steve Buscemi or Rosie O’Donnell and still be worshiped as celebrities.
Put your favorite Korean or Japanese idol into the body of one of those two and ask yourself if you’d still be obsessed with them. Be honest, you wouldn’t, right? That’s what I thought.
Now it goes without saying that we shouldn’t give beauty a priority over everything in life, but we’re all superficial people to an extent and we expect celebrities to represent the best of us. Therefore, having standards for them that lie above the average individual shouldn’t be surprising or unexpected, nor is it some negative reflection on the human condition.
I have nothing better to do, so send me your questions here: Ask Asian Junkie.
