EXILE‘s Akira has been tabbed as Jin Akanishi‘s replacement in a remake of the classic television show, “Great Teacher Onizuka“.
The Nikkan Sports newspaper reported on Saturday that 30-year-old EXILE band member Akira has been informally named as 27-year-old actor/singer Jin Akanishi’s replacement for the GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka live-action television series remake. The newspaper’s source said that original creator Tohru Fujisawa strongly advocated for an actor similar to the wild persona of the story’s title character.
According to the newspaper, Kansai TV is producing the series for its broadcast premiere on the Fuji TV network this July, and it will run on Tuesdays at the 10:00 p.m. timeslot.
Unlike others, I’m not asking why they choose him, as I’m still asking why they’re remaking this.
It was aired in 1998, so it’s not even 15 years old and they’re rebooting it again. Ugh.
It’s a long road back just to live up to Sorimachi Takashi‘s version, which makes me wish they would just rebroadcast the original instead.

Call me slow or whatever, I didn’t know they had a live action version of this show. I only knew about it when my brother used to watch the anime series back in the day when it played on showtime….or was it HBO..whatever. Just for that photo, Imma give him a shot. Also, he looks/fits the role of a hot Japanese street urchin.

Well, I only saw a little bit of Jin acting and he sucked and um…. I think he would probably suck if he had did this role so; as long as it’s not Jin. But I don’t have much comment on AKIRA. Only saw him in Tumbling and he was pretty cheesy there so… would be interesting to see him play a hornball tough dude.
