Tiger JK says Yoon Mi Rae set to make American debut with help from Far East Movement

On May 17th, Tiger JK (Drunken Tiger) revealed on KBS 2TV‘s “Happy Together” that his wife Yoon Mi Rae would be entering the American market.

On the May 17th broadcast of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Happy Together 3‘, Tiger JK proudly remarked, “Mirae will be debuting in the U.S. soon, and I think it will be daebak.”

“She received a love call from Far*East Movement who hit #1 on the Billboard charts and she will be advancing into the American market soon,” he explained, surprising the MCs.

The pairing with Far East Movement is interesting.

While one has to be proud of what FEM have accomplished in mainstream America, they are also the makers of primarily brainless club music.

So I have to wonder if Yoon Mi Rae will forced to follow suit, as it would be a shame considering that she is far superior both lyrically and flow-wise. Worse yet, she could just be singing, because she’s not all that as a vocalist.

Part of me is hopeful that she could at least find niche success because quality female rappers are few and far between (Nicki Minaj FUCKING BLOWS, GET OVER IT), but the other part of me worries about her being reduced to using her average vocals or making dumb fucking club hits.

She’s better than that.

  1. I didn’t even think about FEM’s genre vs. Tasha’s, hopefully she gets FEM to change her way & not her flowing with how FEM go.

  2. Ah sheit. I don’t feel good about this for some reason. Along with FEM, a few people from CherryTree are some ratchet ass people. Fucking LMFAO (I swear if I ever meet them, I’ll bitch slap them with a fresh tuna), DEV (I kinda like her though), and The Cataracts (Who?) I’m fearing for Yoon Mi Rae’s sake with this. I wish her the best…

FEM was a decent rap group before they sold themselves though. I hope they gettin’ money because I don’t hear from them, neither hear them on the radio since Rocketeer, and never seen anybody looking them up (’cause I sure as hell don’t)

  3. Tasha iz da BOMB, Tasha gnna wrck da scne at us. Speaking with African American Ebonics is a lot harder than I expected.

Hopefully, she’ll just be using FEM as an attention-grabber. We really don’t need more brainless club music.

I remember when, during half-time of the NBA All-Star Game this year, Nicki Minaj came out of the dungeons looking like one of those toy trolls (green haired edition) while leading a legion of shirtless guys.

    Just what the fuck, man.

  5. Does anyone know the name of the girl from Like a G6?

    Exactly.

  6. Doesn’t sound like a high-risk move. I mean, it doesn’t strike me as a ‘Wonder Girls-style’ move where she is going to bet her career on breaking into the US market.

Sounds like she’s just doing a collaboration.

I think her husband was just embellishing it a bit.

  7. while i do hope she won’t be reduced to the brainless club music, unfortunately i don’t see this going any other way. i can’t imagine FEM veering too far from this type of music, but i guess i’ll be hopeful. this just seems like a collaboration (similar to what Crystal Kay and Koda Kumi did with FEM) and not really a full US debut (unless i’m wrong idk).

while FEM had some hits a couple years ago, they’ve kind of died out now. the single they released this year with justin bieber got nowhere and its been at least a year or something since i’ve heard them on the radio here. so i don’t know how much this collaboration would benefit her in terms of exposure anyways (if that’s what she wants out of this). FEM was never really famous enough to the point that anyone they collaborate with gets even somewhat popular anyways.

  8. nana-ate-my-nana

id totally have a threesome with tiger and his wife

  9. No, danggitt! I knew Tasha was coming here, but, I swear….Only F*M should do F*M music. Not Tasha too DX

  10. Gosh, I really want her to have success in the states; she’s got what it takes. Plus it’ll show some of those try-hard idols how to make an actual crossover. (Although as the others here have mentioned, it most likely won’t happen with this collab)

Shitty club music is an epidemic among hip hop. Look at Far East Movement can’t get another hit after “Like A G6″ or whatever its called. Its so freaking forgettable nowadays.

If they team up with queen T i hope this gives FM some serious lamelight time as legitimate artists and not house hip hop obsessed one hit Asians.

  12. Oh Lord, they gonna set her up for failure. That new song they did with Beaver didn’t go anywhere. If the Biebs can’t get them back in the market, how can they get Tasha in? I think it’s just gonna be a simple collab. In a way it wouldn’t give much depth for her, but a little more appearance to a larger audience. You’ll never know though..
