Concluding the controversy over Johnny’s Entertainment using the proceeds from their Marching J charity drive to buy pandas, the company officially confirmed that they would be borrowing pandas from China to bring to the tsunami-stricken Sendai region.
The label proposed at the end of last year that they would aid the invitation of pandas to Sendai. Marching J’s board chairman Sato Shunichi personally delivered a document stating that Marching J would be providing the funds to pay for a panda habitat and other expenses to mayor Okuyama Emiko.
He stated, “Next year we’ll be building a home for the pandas… we’d like to make the child disaster victims smile, and to grant their dreams and wishes.”
According to Marching J, in addition to paying for the pandas’ habitat, they will also take the responsibility of paying for the panda rental fee, their transport costs, and their feed costs. The sum total is estimated to be approximately one hundred million yen (approximately $1,280,000 USD).
You know what would really make them smile? Rebuilding their fucking homes.
But hey, anytime you get the chance to bring pandas to kids who need housing, clothing, and medication, you absolutely have to do it.
Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
Agreed. I don’t see how pandas are going to help or be a better asset than rebuilding homes, provide medication etc
I wonder what they were thinking when they came up with this plan lol
They also donated 8 million dollars in March… so yeah
I’m more curious as to what they were thinking when they decided to do this. Seriously? What bozo is making this ridiculous decision.
this is so fucking stupid…if i was a kid in that situation, there is no way some dumb panda would cheer me up lol. that money could’ve been put to WAY better use. people should really give their money to a better charity in the future…
Tackey & Tsubasa, Hey! Say! JUMP, and TOKIO members went to the three prefectures most devastated by last year’s earthquake and tsunami on March 25 to hand over 720 million yen’s worth (about 8.7 million US dollars) of donations, reports Sports Hochi, Sankei News, and Chunichi Sports.
Members from each group traveled to Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures to deliver the money raised through Marching J to each prefecture’s governor. According to Johnny’s & Associates, since the charity was set up a year ago, more than 920 million yen has been raised. This time, 720 million yen is being handed over, and the remaining 200 million yen or so will be handed over in May when the donations collected during KAT-TUN’s tour, scheduled to finish on April 28, can also be added to the lot.

Okay, we get that your intention is to defend Johnny’s Entertainment boys. Nobody said they didn’t do shit.
Just that this is stupid and it is.
lolpandas
I think the argument JE was going for is to bring panda that will increase tourism because people will want to pay money to see the cute pandas and people that live there will cheer up to see the pandas…….IDK how that’s a valid argument and there was a protest about the pandas too.
lol
Too bad all the businesses that would benefit from that are currently in the Pacific Ocean.
it’s official, they are high on drugs
Pandas > Actual help
I don’t know… renting some pandas still sounds like a better use of money than a lot of the “stimulus plans” that American politicians have enacted.
Economic stimulus is not the same as charity.
:o
The panda idea, as stupid as it is, is intended as an economic stimulus for that area.
The only real difference is that with a charity, people are willingly parting with their money to help out some area.
The government forcibly takes money from people to waste it on things even stupider than this.
The consequences are quite different, whether you agree or not.
Well, they already donated 700+ million yen (8 million dollars, or 8 times the amount for the pandas)
from Marching J to the affected region itself, (http://aramatheydidnt.livejournal.com/3601510.html)
so yes, the “fucking houses” are going to be built. Its not like they took 100% of the amount and dumped
it on Pandas. JE also donated trucks
and stuff for immediate rescue operations, apart from idk how much in cash.
Also, anyone ever heard of Panda tourism? Misguided as the thought may seem,
they actually provide a much needed boost for the local economy. And no,
Sendai is not a deserted wasteland without any business, reconstruction started immediately
after the disaster. So apart from immediate help and donations of millions to directly improve the economy, the
pandas will indirectly help, by boosting tourism up to 100% and also will encourage people to trust Sendai
after all the radiation thingys. Right now I doubt people want to move to Sendai or even visit the area.
Pandas are a huge draw in and attraction and they are reallly rare bcoz only the chinese government lends them out.
So people are definitely going to flock sendai. Two benifits: Added tourism + making Sendai seem welcoming and friendly.
Also there is a bigger gesture here. The chinese government does not lightly lend out its Pandas. They only lend
them to places that can ensure their safety and survival and that is not taken lightly. So the very presence of
Pandas in Sendai indicate that the place is safe and normal for living.
Seriously, Johnny is a very smart (and cunning :|) man, and he’s been in the business for like 60 years. Dont
underestimate him. You know that proverb about teaching a guy to fish…
Yes, because pandas are certainly the BEST way to introduce more consumers to an area. Forget bringing over the artists you already have because that certainly sounds like a viable option, a lot less “wasted” money going into preparation and still the same basic result. Trust Sendai? What good would a couple of news reports announcing the radiation levels have on the people. After all, people always think about the restrictions the Chinese government place on lending pandas and even more often do they make the connection between that and the “trust” they have in a region. Certainly pandas would be the best options. Other methods that sound more practical. Who needs them?
I don’t get your sarcasm but you haven’t understood my point. Sure, it may not be the most practical idea, BUT they already did donate 8 million dollars to the affected, along with sending their artists there, (yep, read that article)
The panda money is just 10% of the donations, and even if it was 100%, the idea and motive behind it is noble.
Idea and motive is important, but not too important. If you’re going to help people, you should do it in the most pragmatic way possible. (at least that’s my belief). These are LIVES at stake. Are they seriously about to blow 10% of the donations for some pandas? A person can be noble and still be misguided.
Well… apart from the 900 million yen donated from marching J directly, and 300million from arashi and 400 million from smap which makes 1.6 million along with kattuns tours donations, and je’s other donations, 100 million on a misguided cause doesn’t seem like a lot. Its not like they threw it away. Panda tourism is real and contributes a lot to tourism. I can tell you a lot more shadier companies. ._. They donated 1.6+ yen and you’re still bitching? Why don’t you donate that much and still talk.
That’s a logical fallacy.
Just because one can’t do it, doesn’t mean one can’t say it’s stupid.
Yes, they’ve done a lot.
What does that have to do with the pandas?
You’re defending against an argument that hasn’t been made by me.
I never said, “Johnny’s Entertainment didn’t do shit for Japan.” I said, “Pandas are stupid and a waste.”
And they are.
Nah, I couldn’t care less about JE or defending them. For all I care Johnny is a creep and should die.
But they are doing something for Japan, and also Pandas are not completely useless. They contribute a lot to the economy. Plus even if thy were useless (which they aren’t) its still 100m out of 1700+ m donated by JE. which is a little. And also the fucking houses are going to be built with the remaining 1600+ m yen :D
PANDAS = Most Useless Creatures on Earth.
Listen, if you’re an animal, you’re put together with a mate and told “yo, you better breed or it will be the end of your species” and you REFUSE, well, you just don’t deserve to live any more.
Maybe they will grill ‘em up and feed the kids or something.
Pandas are the cutest creatures on earth. Their main purpose in life is to exist looking cute and peacable and chewing on bamboo.
until they shit out baby Pandas and decides to eat those that they deemed “unfit”
They also bought their artists over, so apparently they didn’t forget it. Wonderful, right? KAT-TUNs tour earnings are going to Sendai. Arashi donated 300 million yen (around 4 million USD) from their own earnings, along with a lot of other donations that i must have forgotten about.
