This is a little OT, but is the attitude toward female sexuality along the same vein in Japanese entertainment like in Kpop? Are the Japanese public more open or encouraging toward women expressing their sexuality in an “empowered” way or is it basically the same suppressive shit in China also and all over Asia?
Well sexuality in general isn’t really a taboo in Japan, it can be traced back to their Shinto religion. They have some JAV stars that are popular entertainment figures on tv, rarely will you see a porn star be respected or shown on public television in America let alone Korea. To answer your question, Yes, they are more open but I wouldn’t say they encourage it like other countries.

Sexuality is viewed differently. I think people who are supposed to be “pure” (certain stars, news anchors, politicians) will get shamed if they use sexuality, but entertainment wise? Not really. Basically everybody has done gravure. Ueto Aya, everybody.
Keep in mind though, this isn’t due to matters of female empowerment in Japan, but just because dudes want to jack it to them. Whether you think that’s a positive or a negative is up to you.
