Besides the Engrish, SNSD‘s Taeyeon‘s cover of “Take A Bow” is at least the equal of the Rihanna original.
That said, Rihanna can’t sing all that well, especially live. In fact, I’d be wiling to bet she would be outsung by Taeyeon live, because as we’ve heard multiple times at awards shows, Rihanna can’t sing for shit without autotune.
SNSD fans have a point in saying it was better than the original, but the best version? Not that close.
Lea Michele basically spread her ass cheeks, shit all over everybody, and told them to fucking love it. Cold blooded.
She doesn’t need to sing very high notes to show us, how amazing she is. I can feel it from her emotions. That’s what I call TALENT. Respect. :))

She doesn’t hit the notes because I’m sure they’re at the limits of her range, which is a bit risky to do while live and performing in a different language.
I’ll listen to them later but just wanted to say yeah.. Rihanna isn’t all that. Just another chick who can carry a tune (just like many) and her selling points being her sex appeal (most of all), they catchyness of her songs and.. I guess mostly her stage performance (due to um… her looks) … kinda like idol Kpop groups. (but she’s actually globally popular………………)

Heard her perform with Eminem three times and she butchered the song three times.
Without listening and I would just base this on my personal observation of her.
I think she’s good in singing live. I’m not a big fan of SNSD but I would she has the voice but… you can’t compare that to the Version in Glee. The singers there are just… BOMB.
Love Rihanna’s sex songs, but she’s just like a limp dick live. From the performance charly brown mentioned, that’s like her only best one.

Tae actually wasn’t bad but honestly it’s not like Rihanna is like that good a singer either.
However….the sones flooding Rihanna video and keep talking about how much Taeyeon is better annoy me. IDK their fandom just have so many annoying people.
It was weird to watch this performance, asking myself “why is she singing like this?”. Then I realized she was doing it Rihanna-style, when I’m so used to the much better Lea Michele version.
That said, it’s been a few years since Taeyeon has sung with true emotion. She’s become as robotic as Seohyun, but at least Seobot tries to fake some emotions (though she mostly fails). I feel like Taeyeon just won’t try anymore, she’s just going through the motions.
Also, Glee pretty much ruined a few songs for me, because I’m so used to their versions that listening to the original ones feels awkward. “Take a Bow” for instance, also “Taking Chances”… all of Lea Micheles versions, lol.

One thing was Tiffany and Adele, where you can’t deny Tiffany’s wasn’t half as good, but in here, I can say I think Rihanna’s version was the best. To you it was Lea Michelle, but to me Lea Michelle’s voice is annoying. And Taeyeon, well she was boring to me, but if other people say they liked it better, leave them -.- it’s not nonsense.
It’s not about personal opinions, but how fans must push their idols’ performances and covers as “better than the originals” or superior in some way when they’re clearly not. For instance, I loved when BoA sang “Someone like you”, but I know it’s not near as good as the original (and it’s not meant to be).

Lea Michelle is just a skilled singer with a bad tone color to me. So I don’t like her cover. So her cover was not the best version to me. And what I meant by my comment is that you’re being annoying, now they can be right if the say it was as good or better than the original, but they’re not right if they say it’s the best cover, so you criticize them -.- nothing’s fine with you. I didn’t see people saying it was the best cover, so I bet there weren’t many comments of that kind for you to make this. And if there were a couple, well, maybe they didn’t see Lea Michelle’s cover? like, next article of this line might be “Seohyun’s cover was good, but sones are still nuts”, and inside the article: “because they’re sones.”. But it’s ok. I still worship you.

Froda is a good singer with a good voice that’s a fact. But the “transmitting emotions” is not her thing.
There is this song ‘goose dream’ I’ve heard it from Hyorin and Heeyoung (Gavy NJ) and even I don’t know what the hell they are saying it stir something on you. But then I heard it from Froda and meh she even needed this dude to sing it with her, she sings like she being forced to do it

I’m virtually certain Taeyeon is proficient at English, I’ve watched pretty much all their interviews in English and even back in 2009 she seemed to know what was going on. Plus having Tiffany and Jessica is always a boon.

Nah. Speaking and singing are entirely different. You can sing in a different language perfectly if you just practice, you don’t even have to know any words. She knows some but i wouldn’t say she’s proficient at it.
Hell yea to the singing versus speaking being entirely different. In 6th grade, our choir sung a song entirely in Portuguese. I still remember the words & pronunciations but no earthly idea what the hell we were saying.

Taeyeon really is a great singer. Maybe not the best dancer but she has a great voice. I agree that the Glee version is a bit better but, importantly! – it’s unfair to judge a live version against a studio version. They could make me sound better than half the singers out there and my voice is awful!
