BEAST’s “Beautiful Night” music video did have non-white women there … like two

So remember a while back when a supposed craigslist ad for white models in New York went out for BEAST‘s “Beautiful Night” music video?

Well after much mocking, people argued over the validity of it, and now that the music video has been released, Asian Junkie I-Team can investigate.

Through the course of our investigations, we have discovered that there are indeed minority women in the music video!

TWO OF THEM!

BEHOLD!

Of course, one is shoved into the corner of the frame and the other is blocked by some white chick’s arm, but still!

Unfortunately for the minority models, the closeup shots are all of women who were probably recruited via craigslist:

Also, what the FUCK is this?

  1. When idol groups come to New York and it’s like their stylists go nuts or something. Same thing was with Big Bang’s “Bad Boy”. They all looked either really bad or just fucking weird.

  2. honestly i’m probably the only one who don’t see the big deal about putting white woemen , asian women, or asian women in kpop music videos. i have yet to see beyonce put a white guy in her music video nd i have yet to see justin timberlake put a black girl in his music video correct me if i’m wrong. but i have not seen anyone complain about it yet. beyonce is loved by many white peoples, justin timberlake probably have have a lot of latinos girls , black girls who listen to him. even if kipop idols put white , latinos , balck girls in their music videos do it mean they will ever date one of them i doubt so people should just chill about this whole story . yes it’s cool seing kpop open about others races but putting people int their music video will not automaticaly mean that korea have become the most accepting country in the world. about this music video it’s more embarassing than anything else seing those guys pimp in those cars it remind me of those old hip hop videos, their clothes are terrible, and honestly one dude there remind me too much of g dragon and not ain a good way. they should stick to their past style it suit them better

    • sorry i mean or blakc women

    • It’s about how “foreigner” means “white” in Korea.

      They basically whitewashed New York.

      • while i agree that korea should realise that foreigners is not just white , i’m sure they know it but don’t want to do it. so putting those foreign s girls just to please international girls to make them believe “oh so it means even if i’m white or black or latinos i can have chance with my oppa”. most kpop fans who want them to feature foreigners is for those reason nothing more. personaly it don’t bother me not seing white girls or asian girls in a hip hop video for example , or a black girl in a rock video or white/ black girl in a jrock or kpop video.
do this mean that black can’t be atracted to white or asian girls ? no , the same goes for asian , white . everyday we see multiracial couples in street so people should just chill out.

        • Well of course I couldn’t care less about sucking up to fangirls or fanboys.

My sticking point is when people try to whitewash everything.

        • mybiasbeatsyourbias

Hmm you seem to be speaking of how interracial demographics use in the media has little effect on reality. Making no big of a difference if kpop shows more black, asian, latino or white. Or even if they show a more bias attitude to any of the selection would be beneficial to experiencing kpop. To which IATFB is speaking of “whitewash” when the bias ideology of foreign=white. From what is consider a diverse region and nation. As the ideal image on a more naive homogenous society. Is rather untruthful, misleading and ignorant.

For you regardless doesn’t change your attitude of fandom towards the group or that particular idol. Even if the west itself was to show more diverse leads in their own MVs. Who cares and I would agree but….

Well you have to think about how people natrually want to relate to things in their life. Black kpop fans feel left out or at oddity for listening to kpop in the first place. Now this idea is fueled more when you watch mvs and the image of a black person is either non-existent,stereotypical or very minimal.

Flip it this is the exact same emotion Asian and Asian Americans feel in the western media.

Its a conflict of acceptance and being acknowledge more than just visual gratification of sexual attraction and perference.

This also brings up an issue about western influence and racial discriminations created by European culture some 300 years agao. When slavery was the westerns worlds biggest commodity. As will reflect on any truth of racial acceptance in progressive societies foreign to those policy.

The more kpop expands west ward and try to compete in our music markets. What they view as western cultural custom to race. Sorta forces us to no longer eat the humble “everybody equal pie” but realize we’ve haven’t gone far in our view of race. That the old caste system has not evaded our societies sub conscious but flourish on new soil.

Depends how open you are on this subject can you start to contrast and began to wonder. As web social networking and sharing makes this world a more connected place in all aspect of culture do we social regress instead of progress?

        • mybiasbeatsyourbias

Oh and I like how you pointed out if kpop would start using other ethnic women besides white as love interest. How this would imply what foreigner that idol is attracted to. But wouldn’t that rule apply to the author who pointed it out in the first place?

If there is one thing I notice when talking about these types of social issues. Is some fans will bandwagon to promote a liberal “shame on you” speach. Yet inentionally never having any real interest or sharing knowledge.

I think Asian men are attractive but kpop doesn’t regulate that. And when this issue comes up its really a subject I am interested in as well as many other black and latino fans.

      • They dont even have one Asian woman in the MV. Are white women that mesmerizing for non-white males?

        • mybiasbeatsyourbias

I feel two wrongs just makes the situation more bitter.
the west glorified white beauty to the point any one who isn’t is least desirable.
Once more we are seeing the truthful-ness of our so called multicultural society and realism of race in a foreign perspective.

So who is to blame, Beast for not including more diverse groups of women in a decent ratio, western society for excluding or misinforming racial demographics in the media or the eastern preference for lighter women and stereotypical ideal that white women are more adventurous vs Asian women?

so many ways you can flip this coin.

        • Please do not make me screencap the asian girls in the mv. watch it again.

    • Um, have you see Beyonce’s videos? I mean all? She has had people of many races in her videos.

Justin Timberlake has danced with black people as well as people from other races before, don’t pay much attention to him, but I know he has.

      Just sayin’…

      • i rarely see beyonce have a white or asian guy as her love interest in the music video the same goes for justin timberlake. byt yeah they do have others people in their music video

        • Oh and Beyonce’s Halo MV

        • Dammit not Halo, If I Were A Boy

        • lakorndiva @ thank you. anway i was just saying the whole white girls business in kpop is fanservice and trying to prove that they are global . anway they should go back to asian girls or choose better looking models! if they are going to feature foreigners at least do a relevant or cute mv. for example koda kumi & omarion song i find it cute.

        • Speaking of Koda Kumi, she needs to find some better look white dudes in her videos. Those guys she’s been having lately (minus Laydown I believe) were ALL HIDEOUS! I shuddered at them dudes in VIP… like really? (Where are the dudes from Taboo!?)

Eh I guess maybe in Kpop it can be bought as “fanservice” but even with Japan’s an-an and many of their vids (not saying all, I’ve found people who had many different races, nationality and ethnicity of people) it’s just the whole: if we’re gonna use a foreign girl model, she gotta be white. Even if the girl is like Indian or just obviously not someone who is straight up Caucasian, northern European-looking. There are so many gorgeous different girls around the world…

    • Beyonce didn’t do so on that On Top video? I thought I saw a white dude there… (though I seriously don’t pay attention to her videos though so I wouldn’t know what she has in them… I just know that champagne glass one and her acting like she doped up on something in De Ja Vu) But I personally just like seeing unity and intermingling and homogeneous/Asian MVs use foreigners to show they’re like ‘yeah, we’re open-minded and stuff whooooh foriegners!!!’ and always show the white girl, it just gives off the impression to me that (almost as always) those who are darker just aren’t good enough to appear. (not sure how anyone else feels, but at least when it comes to black women regardless of country, it seems like globally, they’re the least desired and probably the only racial women group who have like the most negative stereotype that probably really affects people interest… or lack of.) I do raise an eyebrow (in a good way) when I see interacialism in US rock vids or even R&B. But yeah, like I said I just like unity and whatever and I personally don’t care what race, sub-culture (for the most part), ethnicity, size, ‘school-type’ etc someone is from; if you’re physically attractive to me, then you are ^^

      • this could be said about asian girls too , how many time you see asian girls in euroepans or american music videos ? personaly i rarely see them now even kpop idols are using foreigners ; they should be the ones complaining lmao! i’m jsut joking it’s just this whole who should be in kpop music video is ridiculous. and a gorgeous woman is gorgeous no matter her etinicity

        • They should complain, why not? Lol (though I can’t say much since I don’t watch many US videos either) But it’s the same with lack of Asian dudes having a leading role in a mainstream US movie (as well with black females too in a leading role that’s NOT directed for the black community) Just when you see a lack of something, esp when they claim to be diverse and don’t show it well… makes it seem like the others aren’t good enough. You can brush it over that a gorgeous woman is gorgeous regardless of ethnicity, so why not show it instead of still white-washing over it? And still baffles me, Kpop is hugely influence by lots of R&B, hip-hop and rap yet still don’t wanna show much in their videos of the people who have started those sounds and still mostly dominate in them. If they’re really aiming to reach out to intl fans and brag about how this country is sooo crazy about Kpop and stuff, well show it.

    • Maybe it’s just me but ive seen all types of men in Beyonce’s vidoes of all types of backgrounds. Brian Tanaka is one of them.

  3. lol I noticed some black dudes though

  4. 3rd girl could actually pass as a model, though.

  5. not three? i thought kikwang is a black girl too.

    http://myb2styboys.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/16_1227541.jpg

  6. Hell of a lot of black guys though.

I guess that just for novelty for beast.

Seriously though, the song is okay but the video is cookie-cutter. At least big bang pulled it off, beast is just scraping by with this bs. No one walks around an urban neighborhood with curled hair and colorful suits unless they’re a pimp, but if the fangirls could have been I guess they’d been the hoes?. And omg, the fucking hydrolic and low riders…hell no. This video leaves me with one question.

Wtf was beast going for with this?

Oh! Spotted a black girl > 1:56 dancing on a ledge.

  7. Mmm….I actually counted 4 black chicks and several looked like latin girls (or maybe just very tanned white chicks, it’s hard to tell).
There were black dancers too, so the the total amount is good considering it’s a kpop MV.

I’m happy because this is more than what we usually get from kpop videos featurning other races but end up picking exclusively white chicks (I don’t want to say names but you all know WHO I’m talking about cough cough).

    • Pretty sure those are dudes.

      • Nope.
I saw a black girl in green looking like she was scared to move. That one with the afro. I saw one who wasn’t even dressed like a partier, but just looked like a random girl who came to see B2ST, plus I saw a bunch of Asians and Latinos.

On a side note, why do the MV producers (or whoever) find it cool to put sirens at the end of Kpop MVs for no good reason?

    • mybiasbeatsyourbias

I spy two black chicks in the first one, The same one in the second but notice at least 2-4 males.

I fucking feel like play i spy the black person in kpop. Every time i watch a kpop vid with other race people in it.

      ruining my good time

  8. Well, there were plenty of Black guys, and they had closeups, so it’s not really fair to say they “whitewashed” New York. At least they did have some Black women.

Ironically besides Beast, I didn’t see any Asian guys or girls, but I wasn’t looking to make sure they were being open minded about minority hiring, come on now.

  9. at least they had black people in the MV (this more than what we usually get).

it’s time for Big Bang oppas to learn, even though maknae Seungri will be scared cuz he may get shot by a black dude.

like seriously, I love BB but they need to fuckin change this. it’s a shame for a company like YG that claims to be “hip-hop” but can’t have at least ONE black chick in their MVs.

    • Can’t argue with that logic

    • mybiasbeatsyourbias

well this is what i remember YG did that included black performers

-Jinusean did a song with Snoop Dogg and Warren G “All My People”
      http://youtu.be/39hYFqXn5G4

-Stony Skunk “Boomdi Boomdi” had Skull and Kush manwhore-ing to bikini glad Jamaican girls

*note a lot of black fans like taeyang the most second T.O.P then G-Dragon*

      http://bigbangworldwide.blogspot.com/2011/09/news-ludacris-wants-to-meet-yges.html

the blackness I know thus far in YG

      • Yourbiasisshit

LOL If that’s all the “blackness” of YG then it’s a pretty pathetic amount (not that other companies are better).

Taeyang opening concerts is more like a way of promoting himself, not really a way of showing love for other races.

And this still doesn’t excuse the fact that we still haven’t seen even one black or latin girl in Big Bang’s videos.

They came at NY for shooting a MV and we got? One Asian and four white girls playing the roles of their “love interest”……as always.

        • Ikr?
And with the style/image that they’re going for, you’d think that they’d have MVs full of black people. (Not literally, but still)

        • mybiasbeatsyourbias

          @yourbiasshit
I though they had a latina in “bad boy”?
          Well I’m black,white and latina.
When will multi racial girls like me show up in a kpop mv?

      • You do realize that these are black celebrities right? These people are helping YG artists, there not just some random extras that got put in the video, in kpop a white person can be an video just because they are white and nothing else.

And there has been multi-racial women in kpop videos, but like the US media I think they are usually catagorized under a certain race. And like I can’t remember what video it was but there was a black girl in someone’s video recently, well about a month ago and I can’t remember who it was uh…, but anyways she was catagorized as black but she was multi-racial. And bigbang’s “tonight” video had a half asian, half white person.

      • these are good examples but like past ones. it’s like as soon as se7ev failed and then BB got global they decided that they couldn’t be seen with actual black people.

kpop was a hell of a lot more uh, influenced by hip hop culture here and now you can see how that’s changed.

        it’s ok. we see you.

    • bb was always kinda clownshoes in that they appropriated hip hop culture then shed that image as soon as they got more popular. their white-washing is a hell of a lot more insulting because it seems as if they used that image to get their foot in the door and once they got big, they threw it away

these guys aren’t in fila, trainers, and wearing cornrows anymore (dem how gee days). they hang out with white russian women and listen to diplo (a white guys who’s made his career borrowing from black people and being a dj who uses a blackberry)

shit sucks but nothing i haven’t seen before. kpop in early 00s was way more uh less white -washed than it is now.

  10. Daesung_Hit_and_Run

I wish I could have met Daesung oppa

  11. As I’ve said before, kikwang’s hair looks like fabio’s pubes.
Also, junhyung looks so terrible in the vid, same with dongwoon.

I should be making fun of hyunseung but I find him so fucking hot in this video and I don’t even know why.
    ;A;

  12. I don’t see the problem with not being racially diverse. The problem I have with this is that it seems like they are trying to portray most of their fans as being white as oppose to the reality that most of them are actually Asians.

    • …if that is the case, even many of the white fans don’t look like that if they were trying to really show how their intl fans look like.

  13. Dongwoon and Junhyung could get beat up if they went around NY with those clothes
One look like a Texas pimp, the other just look…gay…..:|

  14. Whoever decided that they should wear these hideous clothes around in NYC was obviously an idiot.

No one, and I mean no one, walks around looking like that. And who the fuck still uses those types of cars? And that hair…If they walked down the street looking like that people will be wondering where these colorful aliens landed from.

  15. They look ridiculous. Idk why would anyone would take part of this hot mess.

They can’t even complete a block in the Bronx looking like that especially around the Webster Projects on Washington and Morris Heights. The areas are WAY better and calmer than it was back in the early 90s and earlier though.

  16. Well to be fair…
    http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q555/Anisai_Fujogoshi/Soho%20Demographics/Screenshot2012-07-26at50814PM.png?t=1343348081%5C
Most of the people in SoHo are white. From what I’ve seen, there was an underrepresentation of the percentage of black people in that area, but not terribly so. I do think there was an underrepresentation of the hispanic/asian population, and an overrepresentation of the percentage of women. It should be roughly 50% women, 50% men, however in the video it’s like 15 women to every one guy.

    • Well dudes (at least straight dudes) would wanna be surrounded by a lot of women. Not like this is BB’s MV, but didn’t they film in Brooklyn yet still there were no minorities throughout the video? I kinda call BS on the SoHo thing. But yeah it seems Hispanic/Asian are the underpopulated (because too many just see black & white ;_;)

    • SoHo is just a small neighborhood in lower Manhattan though. A bunch of hipsters around there. Manhattan entirely is pretty diverse. I don’t think it matters nor I really care since the mv is a mess anyway.

    • They are repping New York, not SoHo.

  17. Schizo_phrenia

lol @their outfits and style in general.
It looks as if they’ve inspired it from one of Nikki Minaj’s music videos…

  18. I’m not gonna lie, I seriously don’t even wanna watch the video.. I’ll just take these screen caps lol. (heard part of the song and was like NOPE. Plus even from previous screen shots I think, it just looked whack/boring). But at least that’s more than that Hawaii thing, right? Some people of color is better than none. Maybe some future one will have even more…..

  19. I’ll tell you what the fuck that is in the last picture: a dude that LOVES pussy. White pussy.

  20. This is so gay. They’re making the American style look fucking retarded, just like that big bang video. I feel ashamed.

  21. I bet they were only there because Doojoon is down with the brown.

  22. I can tolerate Doojoon outfit & hair actually (my opinion)…The others….meh

    Anyway,are the fireworks real?

  23. honestly if you hadn’t pointed it out, i wouldn’t have noticed. they’re just “extras” in the mv, i wasn’t really keeping track of the number of each race of each gender while watching (maybe i was too distracted by their horrible fashion/hair choices…). its not that i don’t think foreign=white is a problem, but when have music videos actually been totally representative of what real people look like or the exact racial demographics of a population? its just a pop music video, who really cares? besides, the foreign=white problem is clearly one that extends outside of kpop, if you want change you have to go to the source of the issue right? =/ idk, but either way i think this mv was terrible lol. all those close ups of those black guys was better than anything bigbang did though so that’s a positive i guess?

    • I only pointed it out because of the craigslist ad.

      • Which was not real. -_- i’m sorry and the amount of white women doesn’t prove otherwise. There were plenty of women of other nationalities in this music video wtf.

        • The camera favors the white girls though, rather the craiglist ad was real or not. If there was such a diverse group of girls there than why didn’t they show that, because they wanted it to look American/westernized which equals white. GD and Top’s “High High” video had other ethnicities there as well and the majority of people there were Asian, yet the people you see on screen the majority of the time are white. That tells you something.

        • I’m not saying otherwise to be honest, and that doesn’t surprise me, nor do I really see anything overly wrong with it. It’s questionable at most.

I’m just annoyed with the constant craigslist insinuations, and also the insinuations that this makes BEAST or Cube “racists”.

The craigslist thing makes no fucking sense to begin with and I still don’t get why anyone would believe it for a second. Angel Brazier was there at least, and she’s a legit model. She said she was cast through her agency, as were the other models there. That should be confirmation enough – as if it wasn’t plenty that the allegation was silly in the first place.

As far as them being racist, that’s a really fucking serious thing to accuse someone of being without any real evidence, so it’s pretty fucking annoying to keep hearing about it tbh.

        • Certainly doesn’t do it any favors.

        • Doesn’t make them racist.

          Thought Kikwang probably is.

          :o

      • I do think Gikwang is an ignorant twat and probably is racist.

but from what I observe, the other members don’t get along that well with him anyway. (Honestly they seem to always be picking on him and he’s too derp to figure that out.)

By the way, what do you make of BEAST members unfollowing Jiyeon?

(there’s probably somewhere better I should ask.)

  24. They need to fire their stylist! The guy in the last screen shot looks like he’s ready to take in the ass.

  25. In my opinion, I think they should have stayed one year in New York instead of doing whatever it was they were doing (don’t care anyway) and see what is the damn ethnic population over there. Then, they’d talk with their directors and stuff and add at least one person from each ethnicity.

That might be asking too much, but this is the same process as studying. The more you learn, the better you are culturally.

  26. racist boy band

  27. mybiasbeatsyourbias

Everybody is racist in fucking kpop bands and the damn fans

  28. So I guess this are the dislikes It’s A Beautiful Night get on their YT Official Acc.? XD

I find this MV risky but as a Fan it’s not being a racist coz’ there’s no MAIN girl on the MV. They’re all just bunch of white girls hired to be featured “partying” with the boys. What’s wrong with that?
