So apparently dwango, a Japanese music download company, has a K-pop category for its ringtone download rankings, and to anybody with a brain, it would seem logical that Korean artists would dominate that chart. Well, apparently allkpop missed the memo, because they wrote it up like it was a fucking accomplishment.

dwango Mobile, a music download service primarily for Android smartphones, has just revealed its ringtone download ranking for the first half of 2012!
The original article on tokyohive was from the Japanese media, and it just reported the results of multiple dwango charts, so I guess somebody at allkpop decided that K-pop artists taking the top five spots on a … K-pop chart is somehow notable.

Anything to boost the “Hallyu Wave,” right? AKP would fit right in with the majority of Korean journalists.
AKP/Soompi have their livelihoods directly tied to K-pop spreading internationally, so naturally.
Thought so. I questioned how relevant each site was. I think the question is though
“Why is it kpop acts that dominate and not jpop?”
So they assume kpop is better etc.

Don’t know if the article was edited since it was originally posted or not, but in fairness to the author, it does say “Check out the K-Pop category below:”.
In other words, it is possible that they just meant “here are the top 5 k-pop artists on the k-pop ringtone chart” rather than “k-pop artists dominate the Japanese ringtone chart”.
Either way, it is a poorly worded article.
They know exactly how they’re hyping it.

Is it bad that I have little fantasies that include me flying over to Korea, attending live performances of kpop’s biggest acts, and ask people in the crowd who the funny looking people are on stage (it would be even better if I asked who the Japanese people were…..)? They need to freaking realize that they sound so delusional and narcissistic when trying to come off as a big deal. People there need reality checks. This blog could really help with that, too bad there are more sites like Allkpop that try to convince crazy Kpop fans that Kpop isn’t a total fail.

I think since downloading illegal music is pretty common nowadays, ringtone is another way for people to milk money besides live concerts.
