[Review] [Music Video] BoA – Only One

BoA queefed this video out of her vagina on the most ultimate of down-lows. A tale of love where a woman is left heartbroken, longing for ‘the one’, the woman decides that the best way to fix everything is to slow grind her pussy on a bunch of guys in the middle of a street next to a Mini Cooper.

The second you see BoA walk out of the alleyway with her perfectly trimmed body in super slo-mo as the wind machine catches her hair, you know several chicks are about to go home bald.

In the midst of BoA releasing her head anthem “Eat You Up, her gawd awful English language album, and dropping a Korean album which had her posing like something you’d slay in a forest temple in a Legend Of Zelda game, I kinda forgot that BoA could dance her ass off. So it was nice to see BoA do what she does best with such ease and gusto.

The last video I recall BoA shitting on hoes with her moves was “I Did It For Love“. The song was garbage and the video was a complete rip off of Britney Spears‘ “Stronger“, Aaliyah‘s “Try Again“, Rihanna‘s “Umbrella, and everything Janet Jackson had ever done up until her titty ‘fell out’ at the Super Bowl – but there was no denying that BoA danced her ass off in that video. And she makes a fair amount of chicks take a seat with “Only One“.

With a routine as fly as this one, one can’t help but wonder why SM Entertainment even bothered doing the whole regular video/dance version deal with this music video. Why inter-cut such a hot routine with dusty ass shots of BoA and her man sitting in some rustic coffee shop? Fuck that. Just give us four solid minutes of BoA working her waist and getting felt up by an interracial group of dancers. THIS should be the main and only video. I am not interested in any of that love context nonsense. This is the same girl who was slow grinding in an alleyway up against a wall in the music video to “Eien“. Why start putting plots in her videos now!? And can you believe this video featured two black dudes and that BoA danced in the dark with one of them and let him grab and caress her?!

Taeyeon would never. We know how she feels about black people.

The set for “Only You” was recycled from that “Singing In The Rain” shit SNSD used for “PAPARAZZI” and that TittyShit Taetiseo also used for their vagina anthem, “Twinkle” – but neither of those hoes danced on it how BoA did here.

Say what you will about anything else in this video, you can’t bad mouth the dancing.

—–

“Only You” is a rapid departure from what SM usually have their artists release as a promo song for an album. I was almost certain we would get a video to “The Shadow“, which is typical SM in its sound, and with the same tired template that they’ve based SNSD’s and Super Junior‘s promo releases on over the past three years.

I’m sure SM will have BoA perform “The Shadow” on Inkigayo and Music Core though, because “Only You” doesn’t feature enough auto-tune and electro sizzling bass lines to captivate K-pop fans. And don’t get mad that I just made a sweeping statement about fans of K-pop, instead just focus on what your fave is going to do to keep their wig once BoA starts performing this shit live.

  1. The song is ok & even though I think BoA sings like a dying cat at times but her dancing amazing. That Taeyeon comment hilarious XD

    • I loved the dancing and her in particular!

Choreography was done by Napoleon and Tabitha D’umo, a husband and wife team otherwise known as NappyTabs for So You Think You Can Dance fans.

    • I can’t listen to two BoA songs in a row. Her singing is too nasally and it irks the crap out of me

  2. One of the best Kpop songs of the year. No wonder Son Dam Bi and Hyori delayed their comebacks. They heard BoA’s track and saw her MV and said “Fuck this, delay delay delay delay delay.”

  3. This is song is alright. I think that black dancer (the one dancing with BoA) is lady gaga’s dancer too. Or he looks just like her one of her dancers.

  4. It’s better than Hurrican Venus. That was a bit of a miss.
    Dancing is great :)

  5. LOL at Taeyeon comment XD

  6. There are black people in this video

    • mybiasbeatsyourbias

And white and oh is that thai or filipino also?

She IS the queen of kpop. Had actually deb uted in the west with the most success. Even if it was flop. Your auto tune bias couldn’t beat her flawlessness. I say that to fans who dis her. For all I. See Boa is the most well round korean pop artist.

      • The fuck?

Delusional fans are not welcome here.

It was a semi-sarcastic comment considering the lack of black people in Kpop videos. Christ. You’ve got problems dude.

  7. Schizo_phrenia

    lol @Taeyeon remark.
And yeah the dance is awesome.
…the dude in the MV -BoA’s boyfriend- I initially thought he was SHINee’s Minho.

  8. mybiasbeatsyourbias

Has anyone notice her cute little belly piercing? Its looks like a stud not a ring.

  9. I really enjoyed this song.
It’s sweet, and the dancing is kickass.
It reminds me of her old stuff, and I also like that she pretty much had free reign over the composing/lyrics of this song (I think).

Also, I’m so fucking happy that she had so many interracial dancers. I’m tired of “foreigners” = white people in these videos, and I’m happy to see she changed it a bit.

    I is impressed.

PS – I think she’s the closest thing Korea will ever get to a Beyonce

  10. Not surprised by the black dancers.. I remember seeing an old video of her going over her choreography with 2 black dudes when she was in NY (and this must’ve been back in like…. 03-04 or before?) Plus having black dudes in MVs/PVs are more common than some black chick lol. My eyebrows raise a little when I see black dudes in videos, but when I see some brown/black girls in them, then I shall give a round of applause ^^ (she don’t even have to be black either) But obviously this MV wouldn’t have it since they’re all guys lol.

I wasn’t crazy about the song but… to all those Sones loving to brag about how good and kill at dancing, should take a seat. (the only thing SNSD is killing are dudes dicks when they step on them with their heels) BoA is just a hot dancer.

      • Well in that Jamaican looking one (I know it’s not Jamaica because of the colors sorry >_>), like.. he better lol. It’ll be the Hawaii MV thing. Why that girl look so lost though i the 2nd video? Lol. I saw one that Crown J (I think?) dude did with that $2 budget one and all the AKP comments -___-. I remember when I saw Namie’s “Don’t Wanna Cry” PV I was like “Daaaang! She got Aunt Jemima up in there too?!” LOL and I think um…. Happiness? One of those sister groups of EXILE when they covered some English song. But I really like when all types of people are in a video (like ones from the Middle-East kinda area, etc) Just a nice mix of different colors, shapes, and ages is just nice.. because it’s like, it’s show a video of people; not even trying to appeal to like a specific crowd. (but they’re usually those kinda serious/moving songs. I just kinda like unity stuff I suppose) But yeah, when a brown girl (black, Latina, Indian, SE Asian whatever) is like the lead-girl in a video it does make me be like “Yay… brown skin to some singers isn’t just seen as ‘bleh’ if they can put these girls in a video.”

        • mybiasbeatsyourbias

Crown J fly boy MV was straight trolling. Even someone comment on YouTube how Teddy Park could had handle her better verse Crown J.

I always find the Stony Skunk orginal MV for “Boomdi Boomdi” is cray. All those black girls and two korean guys. Skull (one with his shirt off and londer dreads) could handle them. Kush seem a little intimidated.

Second vid I remeber that from a fan site.

Other than that its freaking baby steps. It would be nice to see us brown chicas rocking as a lead in a kpop MV but in a positive way.

Don’t make us dark skin gals nothing but booty shaking hoes. The men of the west have done a fair job of doing that. Its time for a fucking upgrade

      • Stony Skunk.

I die watching that video every time.

        So much ass Lol :)

        • mybiasbeatsyourbias

I wonder how they got all those girls?
Its like 10:1 or something. I never said I was good in math. I wonder did Skull and Kush meet any honeys for an after party?

    • hyoyeon is actually one of the best dancers in kpop (along with min of miss a) but she’s:
a.) shafted cuz she’s the unfavorite of snsd
b.) snsd doesn’t dance so she never gets to show off

      • Hyoyeon coming first in some dance competition that nobody has heard of, does not make her the best dancer in K-Pop.

        - BoA is a better dancer than Hyoyeon.
        - Jo Kwonce Knowles is a better dancer than Hyoyeon.
        - Minzy is a better dancer than Hyoyeon.
        - The disabled girl in the wheelchair who works part time at the coffee shop at the Incheon intersection is a better dancer than Hyoyeon.

        • ThatTealChick

“The disabled girl in the wheelchair who works part time at the coffee shop at the Incheon intersection is a better dancer than Hyoyeon”
          LOLOLOLOL!

        • wait what I wasn’t even referring to some obscure dance comp.
I was just talking about what I’ve seen when she freestyles/in other vids and crud.
And I’m not saying she is THE best, I’m saying she’s in maybe the top 10/15 but not near THE top.

I feel maybe if she was in a group like miss a (which I think are overall the best dancers for a more popular girl group) her skills would be more noticeable.

and though I think minji is better at freestyle and has more power and energy to her dancing, I think she can be a bit on the repetitive side.

and BoA is obviously a better dancer than hyoyeon that’s not even a question.

    • ThatTealChick

waitwaitwait…What does SNSD have to do with any of this? o.O

  11. OHMYGOSH!! I see BLACK PEOPLE lol

  12. I keep hearing that the Taeyeon comment is fake…? Can someone fill me in on rather this comment is true or mistranslated lol. Anyways back to BOA, is it weird that I love her dancing and love watching her MV’s but don’t really care for the girls voice…? I dunno I just don’t think its very good, it’s only okay…

    • She said Alicia Keys was pretty for being black on a radio show. Sones tried denying it by saying you can translate it differently to English, but a lot of people just accept that’s what she actually said.

    • it’s not weird.
her voice has this sort of odd high pitch to it, that makes her sound young/amateur when it comes to singing.
      meh.

  13. Boajjang! I used to be a huge fan of BoA for 3 years, did the forums and everything. But after 2008 I fell out of the fandom. what I’m most impressed by is the fact she wrote and composed this all by herself….she’s back at the top, in my opinion.

  14. nosebiggerthandick

black guy put it in her ass fo sho

  15. mybiasbeatsyourbias

Isn’t this kinda stupid to stress how Boa has a mixture of race in her MV.

I mean I can look back at Beyonce, Rihanna even Katy Perry niether of them have an Asain male love interest as a lead. Its usually someone the same race or if its a black singer than its white.

Although the dancers maybe different ethnics. When it comes to more story line focus its either black or white. Same for male rappers and singers.

Justin Timberlake all his leads in MVs were white. Trey Song had both black and white women.

If I allow the media to regulate what is consider attrcative to my race. It would be black and white men. Hispanic by deafult since I am also hispanic.

Asian men will be on the back burner. Than again when I watch kpop or jpop vids. Even movies when an Asian male is link to a non-Asian love interest its a white female.

I find this all funny how we point fingures.

    • Isn’t the lead dancer for LMFAO Asian ?

      • mybiasbeatsyourbias

For which vid I don’t really listen to them.

        • Also the reason we point out the races is because a lot of the kpop groups try to get all street or hip hop style while nobody owns hip hop anymore we feel that they should at least show some homage if their gonna bite the style.

        • mybiasbeatsyourbias

lol hip hop is music so there for it will be whored

    • Actually in Justin’s first MV the love interest was black. Also Jesse McCartney always has different races in his videos including asian girls. So don’t give me that crap.

  16. After muting my speakers I started to really enjoy the dance…

  17. The writing in this article is hilarious.
And BoA is just… so awesome. I’m only really familiar with her early Japanese music, sadly, so this article helped me get caught up a little bit. I listened to “The Shadow” and “Eien”, both of which I thought were pretty cool. And nobody has dance routines this awesome. Period. And if she really did compose the lyrics AND the music to this, as other commenters have mentioned, then that’s just badass. K-Pop needs more true, bona fide performers like BoA. Gratuitous sex appeal can only go so far.

    • I had very little time for BoA back when. She was releasing music on the third week of every damn month. And had no sense of self when it came to her image and her sound. And as soon as SM pimped her to Avex, she was being shoved down throats. She didn’t sit down for more than 6 months to take a break so that you could even miss the bitch.

I began to dig her during her ‘Identity’ era. That album caught a lot of flack. But I think it’s one of her best albums, because it was her ‘turning point’ album which she’d been long overdue. It was the first album where I got a sense of BoA’s artistry and for years I thought she had none. She began to take control of her sound and her image and I liked the results. It was a little raw and rough around the edges, but I liked that she finally took some risks.

      • well, boa was well-known as ‘manufactured princess’ (or ‘queen’ if many kpop fans wanna label her) during her prime time, both in japan and korea that time. and when she’s finally ‘into artistry’ or whatever to ‘prove’ she’s not only that, you saw the result – and to me, it’s just at the basic of basic. and her commercial success or artistic venture is dying day by day since then.
in all honesty, i personally don’t think she wanna do that because she’s into art stuffs (she’s more of business woman in entertainment industry cuz she’s got keen sense of business, just like hyori, but hyori is better in this department). she’s more like forced to take that route due to some prominent female solo acts at that time in japan, who in one way or another, involved in their song producing process. unfortunately, she, however, was not momoe yamaguchi enough to get a good song suitable for her when she put her voice in decision making.
so, good for her taking the risk but not good enough for applause.
’bout ‘showing down the throat every week with her releases’, well, that’s avex’s way of making star. and this strategy is proven well-paid as you see with boa, tohoshinki (not completely sure for later generations though because now, avex is not in full charge of korean bands from sme anymore in terms of management of jp activities)

      • I went and listened to ALL of BoA’s music, Japanese and Korean, so I could make an informed response.

Though my favorite song of hers is “Garden in the Air” from Girls On Top, I found her Japanese music to be generally superior to her Korean music (except that Only One seems pretty solid, and Hurricane Venus had a few nice jazz songs). Of her Japanese albums, I feel that the strongest ones are Outgrow and Identity. From the latter, I was really impressed with “This Is Who I Am” (which has a lot of the rawness you mentioned), “BUMP BUMP!”, and “is this love”. Outgrow is just a really solid pop album. I also like the singles “WOO WEEKEND” (awesome slap bass line) and “I SEE ME” (nice chord progression). Sadly, though, the total number of songs I was really impressed by is only enough for a single album.

Anyway, thanks. I found some really cool songs doing this.

  18. Her voice is a fucking shame considering how fucking great she is at everything else.

    Oh well.

  19. the song’s nice and of course the dancing is awesome….if only her voice wasn’t so annoying :(

  20. Never laughed so hard. SME does recycle sets way too much. But at least Boa wasnt dancing her butt off in a shiny box illusion. I think also her career is best in Japan especially since she’s a solo artist.

  21. Anybody ever noticed its not hard for the korean girls to put black dancers in their videos mostly guys of course but the guys never put black chicks in theirs.

  22. she looks more and more different every year

  23. I see a trend here (or maybe it’s all in my head?) when K-pop artists are well known or have been in the business for a while. They get dancers/actors in their MV who are from other races, like Junsu. Could it be that they’re not allowed to have them while they’re rookies?

I have only watched the dance version, somehow I can’t force myself to watch the actual MV. I find her very boring but her dancing rocks.

    • I think you have a point.

They don’t want to “ruin” the reputation of the rookie group by giving them a bad image of associating with foreigners, but then once they are established, their fans will accept anything.

Makes sense in a racist way, though I’m not sure if that’s more company or the company reacting to how the public is.

      • mybiasbeatsyourbias

This also excludes female groups well known or not.

Beast sister group 4minute never had foreign males. Nor did big bang sister group 2ne1. Sexism at its finest.

      • A-JAX debuted with foreigners up in their shit.

  24. How does she move so smoothly like that? It’s like she has no bones whatsoever.

    I feel intimidated. Sigh sigh.

  25. “instead just focus on what your fave is going to do to keep their wig once BoA starts performing this shit live.”

    LOLLLL BOA. LIVE. LOLLLLL.

  26. well, in live stages she dances with sm young boys. xD

is performing with mixed race dancers not allowed in SK?
