Psy is back with “Gangnam Style” and holy fuck everything about this is awesome. Is it too early to call a music video of the year? Maybe, but it’s definitely the music video of 2012 for me so far.
It’s not a typical idol video, which is exactly why it’s great. While idols nowadays take themselves way too fucking seriously in an effort to get others to think of them as more than … well … disposable idols, Psy is an actual artist who doesn’t give a shit how seriously people take him.
He. Gives. No. Fucks.

You know what thought? That’s the primary reason I loved it. The entire thing gives zero fucks about anything. There aren’t many music videos that make me wish it actually was one of those 15-minute movie shorts, but this is one of them.
I wanted to see more of that kid fucking shredding the beach:

I wanted to see more rodeo dancing in random places:

I wanted to see more dudes awkwardly hip thrusting in an elevator:

Just more of fucking everything.
Psy toes the line between comedy and music exceptionally well, mixing an over-the-top brand of funny with doses of actual musical talent. A lot of pop artists in Korea claim uniqueness and pride themselves on being different, but they’re not changing shit, not like Psy does whenever he decides to make a comeback. It’s just a breath of fresh air to see this type of stuff after months upon months of stuffy, overdramatic shit.
Even when he throws in gratuitous eye candy like women stretching on yoga mats or a cameo by 4minute‘s HyunA, he manages to work in elements of funny/weird/awkward.

Clever, boy.
Now do I think he’s an elite talent as an artist? Nah, but if you want an entertainer, and I do think that’s primarily the purpose of pop music, then Psy is one of the most consistently awesome shows in the industry.
I mean, basically, if you don’t like this music video, we can never be friends. Like seriously, fuck you.

Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this freaking song!
I vote best song of the year!
And if you know anything about Gangnam…
Yeah, I love the song too.
i know gangnam is a district in Seoul, but can anyone tell me what “gangnam style” means? it could make this video even more epic if i got the meaning…
It’s one of the most expensive districts to live at. Gangnam style prob means “rich style” something like that. Oh and if I remember correctly.. fans call 4Minute’s Gayoon a “Gangnam lady” since her parents are rich and she wears the most expensive airport fashion out of the 5. It’s probably a slang there.
No mention or even a gif of PSY and YJS dance-off? i am disappointed in this article
and its the 21st century can we have 720p please?
Stop bitching.
When you pay for my bandwidth, yes.
fair enough
Didn’t think it was that GIFable.
Thank you KPOP gods for this video !!!
lol I love this video/song.
I’ll add my vote to yours…Best music video of the year XD
Psy is unique cause HE IS not cause he wants to or cause his company wants him to be.
This freaking song is so addictive. The video es so colorful and funny.
The real question why isn’t he an elite top artists? Gangnam is pure fucking swesome. Its like Cee Lo Green’s “Fuck You.” Its the song that bitch slap all the other songs charting.
To bad its not #1 but than again who gives fuck. No other idol can do what he does. He is one of kind.
An elite talent? No.
One of my favorites out of Korea? Absolutely.
Just curious, who would you consider elite talents in Korea then?
I consider talent and music different, but they usually merge at some point.
Older examples would be like Lee Seung Chul and Kim Bum Soo. Newer examples would be like Ailee and Big Mama.
@IATFB just registered to say: YES, KIM BUM SOO!!!!!
You and I don’t see it the same. Well duh that was a given.
To me music is abstarct. It takes talent to express that abstract for people to undertsand or develope a connection to.
The elite can do that by having amazing good vocals. But that is one abstract or idea of music. Just like vocal ability is one form of talent when it comes to music.
If there is one thing elite artists and those who are aspired or could be. Is the ability to communicate their music ability with their talent. May it be dancing, singing or performing an insturment or a combination of all three vice verse.
I think PSY communicates greatly with his talent and music. To me that makes him above the rest.
when an artists or musician can express themselves freely with whatever their music or insturment maybe. That makes them elite. Even if their not big name.
Agree Big Mama was one of them. Ailee being the next generation. I don’t know the other singer you have mention. Personally I like Lyn and Gummy. Brown Eyed Girls remain my bias. Those ladies can sing some beatiful music but their not always top of the charts.
@popo Hahaha. Word. This was the shit back in the day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul7fJQUpeD4
@mybiasbeatsyourbias: That’s basically what I said though, just in a different way.
Analyze just skills and nothing would stand out. Put it all together and he’s one of the best.
That’s why I said that as an artist he’s one of my favorites.
SNSD!
@IATFB: what the hell r u talking ’bout? IT’S STILL MY JAM NOW! *still abusing ‘goodbye hello goodbye’ live version day after day*
No you disagree with him being an elite.
But then when someone asked you what you consider to be an elite. You gave examples.
My comment was just the verbose to express why someone would consider an artist an elite. You got that part BUT I consider PSY an elite dispite your disagreement from your first response.
Also, while “Fuck You” is a classic, the reason Cee Lo Green is an elite talent is because of stuff like “Crazy” as Gnarls Barkley
I know he is but I used that song because it was more recent. Cee Lo Green is from a different generation of composers. When music theory was used and not fucking pro tools. Digital is great on the commidty end but it destroys creativity on a music and talent end.
Psy is Korean eccentricity done right.
This.
The part with the explosion was the best. I have no idea what’s going on, but the dancing in the most ignominious places was awesome.
Truly an MV to remember. Kids will be saying “Oppan Gangnam Style” for months!
he is flawless just dope. too bad this guy will never hold a concert outside korea. yg need more psy , tablo and stop his idols business. his solos acts is what make still make him a little bit more relevant than sm.
Actually he’s releasing his first Japan mini album this month or next. :D
I’m keeping that elevator gif. LMAO.
:O I was waiting for this review, this song.is.AWESOME.
I haven’t been addicted to a song since loly-poly and that MV is priceless.
I’m so happy this is #1 on the charts right now, this man deserves it.
OPPAN GANGNAM STYLE !!
Glad to hear it’s doing well.
Love it
wicked vid..
and hyunah is cute as FUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK
OMG, I love this so much! And that little boy was gettin’ it.
Am I the only one that noticed the old guys playing chess that died from the explosion?
Psy just walked off in an epic way after murdering them.
I only just noticed it. Hahaha.
This dude is fucking crazy, there is something very wrong with him. I love it.
Btw, Hyuna = boner. Every. Fucking. Time.
Does anybody have gif of the asian guy pelvic thrusting in the movie Hot Rod?
Is the little kid suppose to be JYP lol
Just when I thought ‘punk in the corner’ was the best MV of 2012…. now Epik high should make a comeback and this year won’t be so disastrous
I thought they broke up O.o
There is a rumor that they’ll release a new album under YG
http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lv779sa0bV1r76lino1_500.jpg
No, they were on hiatus for a bit because mithra jin and dj tukutz were both serving in the army.
now that both have been released, they’ve signed under YG Ent as well so I’m assuming an album will come out near the end of the year or early next year.
Because Tablo is from America, does he not serve in the military? And if you are a guy that moves over to Korea, do you have to serve in the military because you’re a citizen of Korea?
I’m so confused by the whole set up there…
If I’m correct I think he has a dual canadian and korean citizenship, and military service isn’t mandatory unless you have a full korean citizenship.
Like, taecyeon is giving up his US citizenship so that he can serve in the army.
Ugh. Hyuna ruined this for me.
I love that he doesn’t take anything too seriously. He’s all about fun. And who produced this song?
Composition: 싸이(PSY), 유건형(Yoo Gun Hyung)
Lyrics: 싸이(PSY)
Arrangement: 유건형(Yoo Gun Hyung)
I’m guessing that the reason why this MV is a half-star off from a perfect rating is because of Hyuna’s non-existent eyebrows.
It was the guy giving himself a titty-twister in the sauna.
If this video doesn’t go viral, I’ll be shocked.
Easily the MV of the year.
It was fun but not awesome.
PSY killed it!!! And Hyunah looked good. Except there was a part I wondered if she had any eyebrows… She needs to have that style more. That little kid. And the second I saw Yoo Jaesuk, I screamed. I just love him.
I need a review on B.A.P’s NO MERCY though. Please. That shit was funny.
TS ent is seriously working BAP to the bone.
I mean, I get they are really popular (kinda) but like………. it’s not like woolim where infinite is their only success, TS has secret.
poor boys.
Secret is in japan moving their ‘love’ to the otakus…. B.A.P. need to make a strong impression, there is a lot of competence for rookies this year, Busker Busker is daebak, Exo has SM’s money + fans idiocy and Nu’est is getting more and more relevant each day
B.A.P are rookies they should put a little extra effort to prove themselves, their “rivals” are fierce.
I agree with Ren’s cookie.
Especially on EXO.
They have sm’s money and he’ll feature them in his new drama and they’ll be making a comeback soon add to that their growing army of delusional fans.
B.A.P better keep up the good work if they want the “rookie of the year” award
What do you mean ‘kinda’?
And I know. These guys had two ‘comebacks’ already. How can you come back if you never left?
They’re over promoting them a la Infinite in 2011 because Rookie of the Year Award
we all know busker busker or spica should win that award.
but I suppose if not them (which is inevitable), I’d be fine with nu’est or BAP getting it.
‘No mercy’ is way messier than their prev songs; the first one is still the most cohesive…I was only listening to the audio and alr cringing throughout the song at the random transitions from rap to vocal runs to stomping segment to korean traditional instrumentals to electirc guitar riffs…like O.o They’re trying so hard to sound cool it’s not even funny…
THIS.
I just laughed the entire time when I watched the music video. Their expressions were funny (Himchan especially), their hairstyles are a mess, the dance moves (don’t even get me started, I just looked at them like: “Don’t thrust in my face. That’s rude. People these days think they can do anything.”) and the song is just bad. Bad bad bad. Plus the chorus (if you could call it that) sounds just like the hook in Power.
Warrior is definately the best among the three singles.
ok, thanks for warning me abt the mv, i came across a few gifs and was pretty much certain i won’t bother with that. oh and i just realized zelo was rapping in dialect, no wonder the rap sounded so weird and awful (the kid should stop rapping in dialect if he can’t even rap well in normal korean :/ )
oddly enough, No Mercy is actually my favorite out of the three promoted singles.
But I have kind of odd taste so…
anyway, I wish they’d stop promoting their “hardcore” songs, and try switching to promoting a ballad/something softer or simpler, because they DO have the ability to do that, and if they did promote one of their simpler songs it would show a lot more versatility to some of their critics.
but since they want to be seen as ‘hardcore’ that will never happen.
:(
Was just them dancing in front of sets and acting like they were hardcore for four minutes.
I liked it. I guess im the only one that did. But I do agree with whoever said they should switch it up sometimes.
all the flashing lights in that mv was almost as bad as the dance version of t-ara’s day by day
This is the best disturbing shit EVER!!!
Loved everything about this and for once I didn’t find Hyuna annoying. YJS’s dances were epic.
Psy may not be the best singer, best dancer, or look visually appealing however he’s a great artist from Korea.
He performs with his heart
He performs humbly ( if you know what I mean)
He’s just raw talent, something no company can teach you.
YG did a great job scouting PSY although he wouldve had some type of success of talent anywhere he went
The packaging they created for this album cracks me up. Can’t wait to see it in person.
Genius.

What unnir/oppar (except big bang) can’t do. PAK is one of those thing that, if my bias does it is the shit, but if someone else do it then is not big deal
Funny music video, but shit song, and even shittier rapping.
Never really considered him a rapper.
It was funny definitely funny. Was that chick hyuna if not holy look alike.
It was her.
Love the video, definitely a fresh take. Hyuna’s cameo doesnt hurt as well.
Yoo Jaesuk + Hongchul = instant win.
Everything in the video is just hilarious :’D
LOL this is so awesome
…
I just realized something.
The old guys…are daesung and seungri. Look closely.
MIND IS BLOWN RIGHT NAO
