FLOWER’s music video for “Forget Me Not” is predictably underrated

FLOWER‘s music video for “Forget Me Not” proves once again that they should be more popular than they actually are, especially among pop groups in Japan.

No hype and no fluff, just consistently solid efforts, but I do get the feeling that people are saying that all the time about them and their sister groups, yet I don’t see the results changing much.

At some point you’d have to think it begins to pay off.

  1. They’re not underrated
    They’re under promoted
Even Fairies get more promotion than them.

They look flawless in the vid tho but I do think it look kinda cheap…..:

  2. those two girls have some beautiful voices. do the other nine only serve as back-up dancers for the most part?

  3. Is it me, or there isn’t much Jpop girl groups with members that has great voices instead of the banshee ass high-pitched ones?

They are really good, its a shame they’re not being promoted enough. So the rest of them are just the back-up dancers?

    • There must be a significant percentage of J-pop fans that actually like the typical high-pitched voice that way too many female J-pop idols have.

To make it even worse, they typically layer those terrible voices over music that sounds like it is from an old-school Nintendo video game soundtrack.

For instance, how about the new Orange Caramel debut J-pop song – sounds like shit right?:

But they must have purposely made it sound like that to cater to their target demographic. And no – it’s doesn’t sound like shit because of their “bad Japanese” – it’s because of the stereotypical J-pop video game music and singing style.

These Flower girls, on the other hand, sound good. It’s too bad that way too many J-pop fans seem to prefer the chipmunk video game music.

    • Flower isn’t an “idol group” tho. At least I don’t think alot of people consider them idols.
It’s usually idol groups that have that kind of sound.

There’s plenty of “normal” sounding groups that don’t have high pitch voices…I don’t think they’re that well known, but almost all of the other idol groups who have high pitch voices aren’t popular or mainstream either, beside the 48.

      • Their copyright policies and the lack of exposure compared to what Kpop does (also with the help of the crazy fandom) makes it hard for me to stay into the Jpop scene. I only know like two places I get updates and music info.

        • I don’t get Japan’s problem with free promotion. :|
The short PVs on YT isn’t that great either and companies even remove 5 yrs old videos…wtf.

To be a Jpop fan you kinda have to work for it. It’s not so bad since Google and Bing videos work well to find videos.
Kinda wish Jpop utilize the internet more since it make it more convenient and videos like Flower’s should be watch in HD. I’m sick of the stereotype people have of how Jpop = AKB48/JE groups or anime music too because it’s hard to find other artists. I like AKB tho but Jpop got more diversity than just idol music….most idols aren’t even relevant in Japan.

        • By their logic, if they don’t give you the music video free online, you’ll buy the DVD version to get the music video.

      • How do you find Jpop stuff? I’ve been wanting to get into it for a while but only know of Arashi, Perfume, Hey Say Jump, Buono, and all of those 48 bands. Even those are difficult to find things on

        • And morning musume

        • Usually Google/Bing video. They show up videos from other stream sites beside YT. Searching with the Japanese name help too. AKB48 fans actually created their own stream site to upload 48 and few other idol stuffs, VID48.com.

The major record company like Sony, AVEX upload short or full videos. But most of the time you kinda have to google.

Try EXILE, E-girls, FLOWER, Happiness, DREAM, basically their whole family. BRIGHT and Perfume are good female groups too. Beni, Crystal Kay, Koda Kumi, Namie Amuro, Matsushita Yuya, Daichi Miura, Kana Nishino have few videos or at least the MP3 on YT. One OK Rock and SPYAIR are good Jrock to give a try. They’re not VK, just normal Jrock.

        • Count da Money

I usually go to jpopasia.com for most of my Jpop video watching. They have the usual pop stuff as well as J-rock, anime, Kpop, and some C-pop. They also have artist profiles and discographies.

    • You mean like 1:09 ~ ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziG_Kr79DTQ
      *ears bleeding*

  4. 2 things….1st, this song reminds me of Shenmue on Dreamcast. 2nd, this dancing doesn’t go with the song

And lastly, I wouldn’t mind getting the girls from Prefume pregnant

  5. I want BRIGHT news.

  6. I like this song a lot, reminds me of one of the Inuyasha endings.

  7. POWER OF NINE

  8. Since I watched the video in low quality, I thought the bitch at 00:21 is Suzy.

And why did they recycle the SuJu’s set? I fucking hate MVs like this, even though the chicks are hot enough to join my secret harem in my basement.

And overknees do NOT go with that kind of dress. Key does not approve: http://i49.tinypic.com/vo396d.gif

  9. The song is not my general style but it’s good nonetheless.

The dresses look decent, nothing too flashy but somewhat eye-catchy.

The MV would’ve been better without the giant crystal thing in the background but the minimalistic setting fits the song and makes the viewer focus on the choreography.

The choreography is probably the best. Very simplistic yet still drawing attention.

Overall FLOWER seems to be an interesting group. Might check more of them out.

  10. Love their voice

  11. Will this get a review?

Btw, did u hear about the new system of e-giRls? For their third single “Follow Me”, they had this “senbatsu selection” type thing a la Akb. 16 members were chosen from the members of dream, happiness, flower, bunny and expg girls dancers.
To be selected they had to go to this boot camp thing. You can watch it on youtbe: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t10lbfFRNEU
It has 3 parts, no eng subs tho :(

  12. Ooooh! I like that their voices aren’t painfully high-pitchy as well. :) I believe I’ve heard of them before but I never was able to get into their music fully because….well….it’s hard to find full MVs of J-Pop! :( It’s hard to find J-Pop music on itunes too (for the artists I like). I can’t believe many of my favorite J-Pop songs were taken down off iTunes just when I was about to buy them too…….

  13. E-Girls 3rd single “Follow Me” full pv is out!!
    Please review :)
