So SPICA‘s Kim Boa recently covered Rihanna‘s “Take A Bow“, and despite the fact that it’s not her native language, she performed it better. Granted, it’s not like Rihanna is an especially high bar, especially live, but still.
Thought it was around SNSD‘s Taeyeon‘s version, but Lea Michele still shits down both of their throats.
Admittedly, it was nice to read the comments of a cover and not have them flooded by delusional fans.
Why is Rihanna even popular? Besides churning out commercial singles, she doesn’t have much talent in my opinion.
Because she’s hot to many many many dudes and chicks like her sexual songs. Kinda like a Kpop idol but… in the US where sex stuff for chicks is a must.

I meant overrated as in looks for both Beyonce and Rihanna. (I remember seeing the behind the scenes of Goldmember and was like “Wow… she looks quite average.”) Beyonce has a way stronger voice than her but even she has her limits though (she ain’t Whitney’s level) Beyonce comes off too conceited in my opinion (and I use to be a fan of Destiny’s Child too.. I don’t like how they broke up and switched members and all that crap) I like very very few of her songs only because they’re catchy.

There are singers at Whitney’s level they just are not well known because they are Gospel singers which are obviously not as popular. But yeah Whitney got her voice from singing in the church. Gospel choirs often time have a really high talented level of singers.

She has distinctive vocals. It’s easy to find talented singers but not every of them have voices that pretty much identify the singer by first listen.
Everyone working with Rihanna has stated how people immediately recognize when Rihanna provides her vocals to a track.
Most of the greatest performers in music have such distinctive vocals – Madonna, MJ, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake…Heck, I can spot an Avril Lavigne song although I don’t even listen to her…
It doesn’t mean they are good or the best, they are simply the most recognizable. A good singer who sings like everyone else doesn’t sell as much as a mediocre singer who has this uniqueness.

She’s pleasant to listen to. Yeah, nothing beats Michele, but I thought I think Boa is better than Taeyeon. More depth in her voice and shit like that.

I am obviously no vocal specialist but her voice appeals to me much more and is indeed powerful – also that other chick standing at the second mic is really good as well. But basically all of them can sing.

Taeyeon is great I love her. Seohyun has become a very good singer too (and in my experience was actually always the most consistent performer), however she will never be widely popular due to her SeoBot programming. While I prefer Taeyeon’s version she could use a little more emotion at times (real life is a little rough around the edges). In this song Kim Boa demonstrates a charming rawness at times…

No problem, I’m looking forward to see where Ailee goes from here. I really hope she doesn’t end up pulling a leona lewis( a really good voice, but no identity as an artist). Heaven is a good song, but it’s basically a halo copy. I know Ailee looks up to a lot of the western divas with big voices; I just hope she can distinguish herself from them.
I think that now seohyun is much more consistent than taeyeon and seems to have stronger vocals as well as better technique.

I want to make it a requirement that all professional singers study classical vocal music first before pop so that they actually have technique and don’t fuck over their voices.
Or at least have them study vocal music of any kind a great amount.
Also, mad respect for Boa seeing as she was a vocal coach before this.
