Asian Junkie Gets A Makeover

Okay, so as many of you have already astutely observed, Asian Junkie has changed a bit over the last few days. At the same time though, basically nothing about the layout has been dramatically altered, and I think that’s a positive, not a negative.

Anyway, the site is still as simple to navigate as ever, even simpler than before probably, but there ARE a bunch of changes and/or upgrades.

1) The site is now mobile/tablet friendly.

Hell, even if you just make your window smaller on your desktop the theme will adjust to that. The responsive nature of the layout is the primary reason I went through with this upgrade, because it was the most demanded/requested thing.

2) There’s a chat now, so we can all talk with each other in real time or whatever.

I decided to give the chat just its own page over having both the page and putting the chat in the sidebar because I thought the latter option was redundant. I mean, you can always open the chat in a separate window and then browse the site for articles or whatever in another window.

Anyway, you guys asked for this, so go whore it up.

3) There’s “Popular Now” and “Discussed Now” sections in the sidebar.

“Popular Now” is based on views and “Discussed Now” is based on comments. They’re both automatically updated and limited to the current week.

4) The commenting interface is easier to navigate.

Now you don’t have to go all the way to the bottom to reply to a comment.

With that said, I still don’t feel comfortable going with DISQUS or whatever else, primarily because having running convos is the last thing I want for the comment section. It’s supposed to be hard to shit all over it.

5) You can subscribe to the comments on an article now.

Check the box at the bottom of an article’s comment section if you want to subscribe to the responses to the article. This makes it easier to keep track of the comments on a particular article, especially if you are in a discussion with somebody. Also, this is a reason I want to keep most convos on topic and all the verbal masturbation in the chat.

6) You now have private messages.

Below the “Account” box in the sidebar is a “Messages” box. Use that to send love letters to each other or whatever. Or annoy me. You’ll probably do the latter.

7) There’s now a link to a gallery at the top of the site.

Pretty pictures will go in there and I might try to monetize it or something. I’m not sure when I’ll get around to creating that though, as it’s currently empty and I have shit to do.

I’m sure there’s other stuff that has changed, but most of it will be minor. You’ll probably notice differences here and there, but nothing that’ll make you flip out.
