Just moments ago, it was revealed by allkpop sources that Block B‘s Zico is dating former T-ara member Hwayoung.
A recent hot rumor in the K-Pop idol scene is that Block B‘s Zico and ex-T-ara member Hwayoung, have been dating for a few months now.
We reached out to our sources at Stardom Entertainment and although the company denied the rumors, an employee who wishes to remain anonymous has confirmed that the two have been and are still dating.
So as one would expect, the comments regarding the story basically boil down to “Wow! Good for them!” and “I don’t care about the dating but allkpop is full of shit!“.
Well, if you didn’t figure it out by now (I don’t know how you couldn’t), allkpop and Stardom Entertainment (Block B’s company) have a working relationship (or had). As such, allkpop absolutely has the sources to confirm this type of information, so while it could always be false, I have no reason to doubt the story.

What you should question though is the timing of this release. As in, why if allkpop and Stardom Entertainment have a relationship, did allkpop choose to use their inside information to break a seemingly random story that could be potentially damaging to Block B and Zico?
Easy.
Stardom Entertainment and Block B recently did an exclusive interview and giveaway with Soompi. And you know how well allkpop and Soompi get along with each other, right? So yeah, it’s not a coincidence that they released this breaking news on the same day Soompi released their exclusive.
So, like I’ve mentioned so many times in the past, this is just yet another example of how these international K-pop sites run their companies like children.
“You have to promote with us and only us! Don’t like my rival! If you do, I’ll do something bad!”
That’s basically how it works.
They’ve had these wars over things in the past, ranging from YG Entertainment to Hollywood Bowl, so it’s nothing new either. I don’t even want to say this shit is professional enough to qualify as bias or collusion or whatever. It’s just … petty.

Anyway, I’ve confirmed that this is how things went down behind the scenes, so this isn’t speculation on my part either, but like I said on Twitter, it wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to read between the lines of what these sites do and figure out their biases. In fact, personally, ever since I was told by a source at Soompi that they were getting an exclusive from Block B, I was just sort of waiting for SOMETHING to happen.
Admittedly, I didn’t think it would be this.
While the dating story is certainly news, I just find it sad that the private life of two idols came to light basically because two international K-pop sites are still actively having their dick-measuring contest.
Oh well, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal anyway. Best of luck to them.

The last laugh is on AKP because fans aren’t reacting the way they thought they would. Instead of fire and brimstone, most BBCs were initially shocked and then gave their blessings, pretty much. I’ve heard that K-netizens knew this for a while now and since this isn’t on Korea’s front, it’s not going to be an issue over there at all, I guess. I’ll worry when it hits breaking news on Nate or something.

I also think Stardom doesn’t really care for AKP since AKP fudged up when they were mistranslating all those articles about the Thailand controversy and even though they tried to fix it, the damage had already been done.
But I don’t see why Stardom went to Soompi since they JUST published a trashy article about Block B a week ago. At least AKP posted an article clearing up the misunderstanding. Soompi just went with the whole thign and pretty much slandered Block B o__o

International fans on akp always react like that, top comments on dating rumors articles are usually with blessings, etc (unless it’s not some ridiculous shit like Psy/Yoona). But international fans are sadly irrelevant, the only important thing is Korean public reaction and I don’t think it will be that great (probably something like pitying Hwayong and shaming Zico). “K-netizens who knew for a while” – most likely some sasaengish kbbcs, like some people claimed to know about IU/Eunhyuk before their photo, most of the public don’t read every rumor, so it’s still can be news. With lack of source of course, but it looks like Korean media doesn’t need a source, if some anonymous forum posts are decent sources for them, international kpop site is more than fine. I don’t think it’s ever worked inversely though. Breaking news on AKP triggering breaking news on Korean news sites never happens, at least in my knowledge. If there were some anonymous posts about it on Nate Pann or something months ago and it got a lot of leverage, it should’ve been out months ago but it’s been pretty much ignored, which is surprising considering the controversies that Zico and Hwayoung were involved in.
Who knows…maybe Korean sites will be crediting AKP this time around, though I don’t think it’s very likely. We’ll see!

Anonymous sources are necessary to do journalism.
The problem is when you use them to spread rumors and not inform the public of facts.
I know they are important.
My problem is not with anon sources but unreliable sources, as I mentioned above, and how they are used to fabricate headlines.
Anon sources should be the starting point of journalism, the thing you want to prove or disprove with facts, and not the whole of it.

I don’t really have thoughts on it, it’s their thing. If they come forward and reveal their relationship I will acknowledge it but for now this is just a rumor.
There is nothing proven in the article, they tossed something at the public and it’s up to you to believe it or not – that doesn’t require journalistic skills, bloggers do this all the time, especially the conspiracy theorists.

The only issue with this is WHY it was released, not the fact that it was released. International sites are free to do journalism just like any other outlet, it’s just fishy when the only time they care about doing journalism is when it helps them settle grudges.
