In terms of being a music artist, I don’t think there is literally a single thing that Arashi does better than Lead (and I like Arashi apart from their music), yet the former sells millions and Lead is relegated to tens of thousands if they’re lucky.

Matsushita Yuya is amazing… great singer, dancer, and his acting isn’t bad (and writes some of his own songs) but some Sexy Zone kid or some other Johnny will just be more popular because of affiliation.
Matsushita Yuya is one of the best solo male pop acts I’ve seen out of Japan in a while, but he’s not gonna be popular because he’s not from Johnny’s.

I completely agree. I Matsushita’s stuff is great, and he deserves so much more attention than he’s getting.
It’s nice in all its simplicity. For some unexplainable reason, this track makes me envision being shut in, isolated from everything, in a room with blinds and curtains keeping all the daylight out, and being in a nostalgic and pensive state, for an extended period of time! haha. Don’t ask me why.

Oh…Japanese labels and even tv channels are super duper douche bags. They will take down any official music videos fans put up because of Japan’s super strict copyright laws. Only some Japanese music labels will post up PVs…but a lot of the time, the PVs are short versions T__T

ARASHI is super out there, with dramas and variety shows and more freaking dramas. Hosting the Kouhaku Utagassen or however it’s called (too lazy to look it up). Hosting their OWN “talk” show. You ask, “What have they been doing lately?” And off the top of my head, I already know they came out with chart-topping singles, they’re hosting shit, and making appearances everywhere.
It’s all in the promotion. Everyone freaking knows them. I had never heard of Lead, and if I did, I quickly forgot. But like you said, that’s the “Pop music world, everybody.”
The thing with Arashi is that they have this some sort of sorcery that makes you like their music through their personalities. I bet that majority of international Arashi fans got into the music because of Arashi being awesome as people and not just idols. I watched Hana Yori Dango, got Jun-baited, then watched all of their variety shows (someone please bring back Arashi no Shukudai-kun, PLEASE), and THEN listened to their happy, rainbow-colored, sugary music and I was horrified to discover that I liked it A LOT.

Ewww really? I’m like one of the few J-music fans who can’t STAND Johnnys. I only like very few and it’s threw their acting (I’m a huge fan of J-dramas) and personally think Jun is a bad actor… and quite overrated…… (as well as that drama but… if it got remade in 5 different countries, must be something right with it. Though I wanna see the 1995 movie with Tanihara Shousuke and Fujiki Naohito *swoons* Now those…. are hot dudes and great actors #^^#)
I don’t like Johnny’s now, but I liked the groups from a little while back (was it maybe 5 years ago?). On a side note, I’ve been listening to EXILE’s Christmas songs for the past weeks :)
lol Honestly I didn’t like Jun in much of anything except Hana Yori Dango and Gokusen 1. Shortly after I watched those two dramas, I watched some Sho dramas (Quiz Show 2 is one of my favorites) and then Letters from Iwo Jima (and after that I ignored everyone’s acting except Nino xD). But yeah~ that’s how Arashi got me. It was mostly through their variety shows though
