Are you a SONE? Do you not like “I Got A Boy“? Oh no! What to do?
Well, you could take after SNSD and just use cognitive dissonance to convince yourself everything will be fine.
Seohyun:
“It was our first time trying this genre, and the tempo changes all seemed unfamiliar. I couldn’t tell where things were in the composition. It isn’t a hook song that quickly catches people’s ears, so I think it was more [strange]. But once you hear our song and scratch the surface and keep listening to it, you will discover fun elements to the song. The members also began to like it more after listening to it not once, but 100 times.”
Taeyeon:
“The trend is like this nowadays and this is the image we were aiming for, so I would like for [fans] to understand that this is ‘Girls’ Generation’ style even if it’s not their personal style.”
The rest of the quotes are about artistry and choreography and shit, which I never take seriously from any idol group because they have nothing to do with it. Not hating on SNSD, just on idol groups talking about it in general, because it usually amounts to them coming up with convoluted bullshit to try and make themselves feel like artists.
Anyway, their quotes sound like most of the positive takes I’ve read thus far.
IT SOUNDS LIKE ABSOLUTE SHIT AT FIRST BUT ONCE YOU LISTEN TO IT LIKE FIVE MILLION TIMES IT’S FUCKING GREAT Y’ALL
Yeah, no. At that point, all that’s happened is you develop Stockholm Syndrome with the song.
Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
They are taking the delusional sones advice of listening to the song tons of time to understand just how sophisticated igab really is. I’ve tried listening to it about 20 times and I still don’t like it. I guess I’ll try 80 more.
Haha “Stockholm Syndrame” is really apt. I never understood fans who said they didn’t like the song and they’ll keep listening to it until they liked it (or rather, convinced themselves that they liked it). That’s not the point of listening to music, you should just enjoy a song if you like it and if not, move on.
For pop, yeah.
For certain stuff, no. Some of it is like poetry. Obviously, this is not one of those things.
:o
I typically like most of their songs on the first listen. I liked IGAB the first time through, though, a lot. What’s funny is that the girls seem to be saying “well I’m a little uncomfortable with it because it is different.” The fact that it is different means they are breaking a little new ground, if not for the industry, for themselves… The song is a total clusterfuck for sure, but its fun. As far as “having to listen multiple times to enjoy it,” I’ll admit that that was true for my for the song The Boys, and most of the rest of the album, except for Trick, OSCAR, and Top Secret. After a few times I actually really like Lazy Girl, as much as I hate to admit it. I’m disappointed that so many fans dislike IGAB, I hope this backlash (if it truly exists) does not make SNSD/SM more creatively risk-adverse for future endeavors.
Oops, remove “though” from the second sentence.
ikr I hate that I love The Boys cause I think it’s truly awful but I don’t regret liking IGAB at all. It’s weird. I mean, the song is messy as hell but it’s definitely better than The Boys, imo. Honestly though I became a S♥NE in the 1st place because I absolutely love the stuff they’ve released in Japan, so while I love IGAB… I’m more excited for their 2nd Japan tour next month. <3
Me too. I think their two Japanese albums are their best music. I’m definitely excited for their second Japan tour. I love live music, I’m definitely picking up a copy of whatever they film in Japan!
If they were real fans, they’d like ALL of their songs!
lolwut?
“…..this is ‘Girls’ Generation’ style even if it’s not their personal style.”
NOT THEIR PERSONAL STYLE!!!
If Lee Soo Man comes up with the brilliant idea of SNSD dressed as fruits with a song called ‘I got a blender’ then that would be their personal style
Juice?
I thought there’s already some group cosplaying fruits? No?
Maybe I was thinking about Orange Caramel then
Maybe you are thinking of Junsu and bananas? I know I often do.
Read the comments on Allkpop, even they agree’d on this and that’s saying something.
What’s puzzling to me is how they achieved 20 million views on Youtube in such a short amount of time. I’ve heard that:
1. SM buys views
2. Their apps contribute to views on Youtube
3. They have softwares that refresh the page
I honestly don’t buy it, but I wouldn’t be surprised. If it was a good song, I can understand the high amount of views, but for IGAB? I just don’t see it.
Well it was smack dab on the Youtube homepage for a while.
The same with Hyuna’s “Ice Cream”.
Still the biggest mistery for me is f(x)’s Electric Shock being one of the most viewed kpop videos of 2012. Boring typical SM video + mediocre song + relatively small fanbase = 37 million views, wtf? Even almighty Super Senior don’t have even 20 million. Heck, they even beat Taetiseo, so Electric Shock is the most viewed SM video of 2012.
As for IGAB views – maybe it’s partially because of those poor sones who torture their brain cells with this mess again and again to convince themselves they like it? Still strange they have so many even with all the negative response. Or maybe because of it? Like everybody want to check themselves how bad it is? I don’t know
I actually liked the Electric Shock MV since it was colorful and the song didn’t cause me to cover my ears, but I see your point. Twinkle was better though. Still, Electric shock beating out Twinkle? That’s a long shot.
I heard Electric Shock was actually pretty successful. Not saying as successful as Twinkle though because I have no fucking clue.
I did like Electric Shock though.
Something about that video having so many views just didn’t add up to me either.
Looks pretty easy to buy YouTube views:
http://www.authenticviews.com/
But seriously – I don’t think they even need to do that. They have tons of human bots (Sones) that will gladly refresh the video all day long.
Either way, the view count is almost definitely not authentic.
I wouldn’t trust that site….
http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/authenticviews.com/comment?utm_source=addon&utm_content=rw-viewsc#comment
Neither would I. But the complaints on that site you posted are all related just to the fact that they sell fake views – which is all the site claims to do, anyways. People obviously don’t like the fact that there are sites like this out there, but there’s really not much that can be done about it.
Either way, the point was that you can certainly buy fake traffic – whether it’s that site or some other provider. I doubt you’re going to find a spammer site with a “trusted” reputation – regardless of whether they deliver what they promised.
They all buy views and SNSD is the leading girl group. Pair the two together…
I dunno a playlist with the same song twice set to repeat ad infinitum is how most fans do it.
Google will do to SM what they did to Viacom
A contributing factor may be that SM’s official channel has over 1 mil subscribers. That’s a lot of people who are hanging on their every crappy video. And if they really are watching it until they like it, SM could practically get those views legitimately. (Not that they do.)
Am I the only one that has come to like the song? I mean, do I think it’s a good song? No. But do I like it? Yeah. I hated it at first, but a friend told me to just give it another try and, yeah, after a few listens it really started to grow on me.
Oh, shit. Maybe it is Stockholm Syndrome. D:
I’m getting Stockholm Syndrome-y about it too.
Maybe their company gave them a scrip to read off…
That’s the only reason I can think of because they can’t be that stupid to tell their fans to listen to it 100 times…:|
I would be surprised if idols didn’t have scripts and restrictions on what they say, but on occasion I am surprised by the candidness of their comments.
More bullshit to keep the handy j’ers to keep milking it. I’m not just saying that to SM, but all of ‘em. Same thing, different day. IMO I understand it was an attempt for them to do something different (Look at Iccky Minaj when she went from Hip-Hop to Pop. Its a clusterfuck trying to give both to the table, but bitches still eat it up) but I’m not feeling it. The more I hear it ain’t gonna make a difference, probably get annoyed or pissed, but depends on the person whether it’ll grow on them or not.
This just sounds like a PR stunt because SME knows there has been too many negative reactions to the song. The only thing preventing a complete song change is probably because they spent too much money on that choreographed routine. The girls seem to really like it because it’s probably more of a relief than trying to dance in heels.
I love the dance routine because it’s fun. I wouldn’t say it’s a breakthrough in idol dancing though but it’s nice to see a major girl group ditch the heels. I split the song into 2 different songs. The parts are really well-done (minus the rapping), too bad it was ONE song.
Like another poster on AJ said: They don’t have to justify anything, except release raunchy Yuri dance solo. H̶y̶o̶y̶e̶o̶n̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶s̶h̶a̶d̶o̶w̶ ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶s̶h̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶B̶o̶A̶.̶
The big red waving red sign that this is a PR exercise is the AllKPop headline, ‘honest thoughts.’
That immediately tells you it’s anything but honest thoughts.
I like how that AJ poster thinks, and I don’t find myself saying that too often.
Its funny because even they have a hard time justifying this song. They’re like “mmmm we like the dance moves!”
“I don’t know where anything is! In the song!”
Here’s the problem ladies, the more I listen to it the more I have the urge to stab myself with a knife so no, thanks. I think all of you are cute but I’d rather never listen to that fucking song ever again for the rest of my life :))))))
“…you develop Stockholm Syndrome with the song…”
LOL. That’s awesome.
Translation of interview
Seohyun: this song is confusing, to sing and listen to. We thought it was weird, but we forced ourselves to listen to it until we could tolerate it.
Taeyeon: What the fuck is this? This is the most confusing song ever, but of course, we must comply to the trend so that SME can try to outdo YGE.
Tiffany: I hate this song because before, I had easier choreography to do that masked my off beat dancing abilities, now I really stick out because I can’t follow the routine.
Yuri: I now understand how F(x) feels, but hey, our fans will buy anything….but this is a fucked song.
Meanwhile…..
Hyoyeon & Sunny: WHOO! We have street credit now!
At least, that’s how I interpreted and inference the interview .__.
Wow. They all said more about the choreography than they did about the song. XD
this will force them to release another song sooner than expected, this once a year shit wont cut it
Is it bad that I don’t like the song as a whole, but I like a few individual parts?
Or that I think this is decent http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Planmavwic ?
That is a pretty decent version.
Almost as bad as when Seohyun said they were invited to perform on Letterman.
You want me to listen to this.. this.. abomination a hundred times so I might ‘understand’ it and start to ‘like’ it? Yeah, no.
It’s not just the song. The colors used in the music video are so bloody annoying. By the time I finished listening the song, my migraine started back up. It’s not worth it.
I love how Seobot can crack jokes like that without moving a muscle in her fucking face.
Still only watch the MV for Yuri. Fuck the song.
Lol
It’s called SM Entertainment for more than one reason…..
WHICH MINNIE WILL LOVE!!!!1!
I can’t wait (probably in a few years time) for Taeyeon to admit that SM keeps screwing them over with title tracks… ‘I HATED ALL OF THEM EXCEPT FOR MAYBE RDR’
I mean, I liked IGAB, but there were much better songs on the album.. Flower Power wasn’t that great and the rest of their Japanese album was amazing. Trick would’ve also done better than The Boys, but oh well. -.-
LOL I just came from tumblr because I have to share this.
Do you know the newest response from hardcore SONEs to the negative comments about the song? Aparently everybody who dislikes it is a fuckin sexist/misogynist who hates SNSD for doing a girl-power song and we will be loving it if it was a YG/Big Bang song.
I can’t believe how creative they are becoming.
I can somehow forgive pseudo-feminism coming from silly kids, but calling this a “girl power song” is just disturbing. HAVE THESE BITCHES READ THE LYRICS???
I just googled the lyric translation and it is a clusterfuck. Girl power, my butt. More like, “I need to do whatever I can to keep my man because I’m crazy like that.” *Insert Overly-Obsessive-Girlfriend*
The tempo isn’t consistent, the dance style isn’t consistent, even the point of view based on the lyrics isn’t consistent. I swear, people who can actually listen to this song more than once in a row are on drugs.
Haha…Specially the part about being helpless, calling a prince to save you, and how you shouldn’t let your boy to see you bare faced because he will leave you.
Oh,yeah. This song fuckin screams girl-power. Just like the 56436543566357 songs about a girl feeling insecure because she loves a perfect and flawless opparrr.
And yes, this is not SNSD’s fault and most kpop songs have this type of lyrics. But at least don’t go around claiming bullshit.
It’s actually the opposite though…
Sorry to post so many comments on this. But what the fuck is the genre that Seohyun is talking about? Is this a genre?
I’m gonna go out on a limb and call it “aeg-yolo”
You only are cute enough to get away with stuff like this for so long :) Live it up girls
Anyone remember the interview where they said they thought Gee was shit but they had to like it because they heard it over 100 times? Exact same thing here. That’s not good advice, it’s basically brainwashing.
I can only listen to Gee maybe once or twice a year. That’s my limit
You’ve a stronger stomach and resolve than me. I can’t last long enough to listen to it fully even once.
it’s adorable that they consider themselves as serious musicians.
