Back in 2006, singer/songwriter Ayaka was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. She put her career on hold following the release of her second studio album, “Sing To The Sky”, and spent most of her time recuperating and being treated. Despite not being able to actively promote, Ayaka recorded a third studio album independently, which topped the Oricon weekly chart. And even though Ayaka should probably be taking it easy and sitting at home chilling at a kotatsu, drinking miso soup, and having her feet massaged by her husband Mizushima Hiro; she’s touring, releasing singles, and performing in -2°C weather at the Tokyo Skytree in a mini-skirt and knee-high boots – because that’s just how Ayaka rolls. Healthy, able-bodied bitches need to step their game up.

Ayaka will be releasing a brand new single, “Beautiful“, in February, which will act as the theme song to the NTV J-drama “Share House No Koibito“. It marks the first time in almost five years that a song of hers will be tied in with a drama, with the last being her single “Okaeri” in “Zettai Kareshi“.
Ayaka’s recent activity is a great sign for fans who have been missing seeing her active over the past couple years. It also speaks greatly about her health that she is able to get out there and show able-bodied chicks with a clean bill of health how to hustle. Other chicks cancel shows because of colds and shit. Ayaka has a long-term disease and is popping her pussy at the foot of the Tokyo Skytree. Ayaka could be struck down in a wheelchair with an IV drip attached to her arm and this woman would still wheel her ass to a stage to perform.

Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
I Just recently discovered her music and I already love this hoe! Blue Days is my jam! I still haven’t listened to her third album though. Also, you wouldn’t be able to tell that she has a long term illness based off of her live performances. She delivered pitch perfect vocals during her recent live performance of Tsuyoku Omou (Which I fucking love btw).
I saw ayaka in July and if anything her vocals have improved IMMENSELY, despite that visible bump on her throat. I don’t know if it’s on the DVD release but during certain sections she was doing vocal runs and hitting notes flawlessly. She’s a perfect angel.
That sounds fantastic, good for her. She creates some pretty impressive, lush j-pop tracks, and her music tends to be tremendously warm, uplifting, and endearing. It’s always nice to discover how passionate an artist is about their work.
AYAKA IS A BAD BITCH.
She is PERFECT. I’ve been a fan since her first album.
I admire her, but at the same time, wearing a miniskirt in -2 degrees celsius is just a bit insane. Just a bit.
I wish I could’ve sang the theme song for that crappy drama Zettai Kareshi (Mokomichi was its saving grace because omg they butchered that story up and just made Aibu the most annoying-est actress out there) so Hiro can marry ME! ;__________; (no…I’m really not that delusional)
I LOVE HER. Writing and composing songs while on sick leave, performing stronger than ever right afterwards, and kicking every so-called idol in the balls with her awesomeness. Beautiful face, beautiful voice, EVERYONE SHOULD JUST GO HOME.
I don’t want to be a party pooper but that disease is honestly not one that forces someone to take leave since you function normally with some small treating (taking some pills every day that don’t affect you at all). :x
It’s an auto-immune disease though, so I’m not sure how you could evaluate the situation.
Lots of people suffer from it in my family. I have almost the same shit just that my thyroid gland is underactive, whereas this disease causes it to be overactive.
It does get more annoying when you get older but at a young age you don’t even realize anything (other than the weight gain or loss – that shit is messed up) if you take the medication that doesn’t even have any bad side effects and still lets you do all the fun things (like getting drunk).
Still shitty disease nonetheless since you won’t be able to get rid of it ever. It’s just not something that will keep you from functioning (unless you get a depression because your hormones are being assholes) so I was a bit confused that she took such a long time off to get treatment.
