So yeah, apparently Brave Brothers was quite a prolific criminal and/or delinquent

BraveBrothers

So when this story on Netizen Buzz about Brave Brothers and his criminal past got posted, I got a bunch of people asking me what he was talking about.

‘Moonlight Prince’ has a corner where if you don’t get any quiz answers right, you’re put in leather handcuffs. Whiel putting his on, Brave Brothers said, “It’s been 18 years since I put these on”, referring back to when he was arrested and put in a detention center for violence when he was in high school.

I didn’t know off the top of my head myself, so I looked into it, and apparently Brave Brothers was quite the criminal/pimp/delinquent or whatever.

Brave Brothers, whose real name is Kang Dong Chul, used to be connected to Korean gangs and had a rough history. He has 12 violent-related crimes on his record and even owned a room salon business once. However, that all changed once he fell in love with Cypress Hill‘s music, he stated that he ended all his relations with organized crime.

For the upcoming broadcast of KBS‘s ‘Win Win‘, Brave Brothers revealed, “I graduated from middle school, but was unable to graduate from high school. I was forced to drop out… I went to juvenile hall when I was 17. I was arrested in front of my parents and taken to jail, and even after that I was on probation for 2 years and 6 months. My misjudgment drove me all the way down to that situation.”

So yeah, I can understand questioning bringing this up or why he’s joking about it. It’s not like he got arrested once or got caught smoking weed and he’s being self-deprecating, because he was basically a career criminal as a youth.

  1. I still can’t over the fact that Brave Brothers is just 1 dude

  2. Here’s a better question: why is he called “Brave Brothers”? A quick search didn’t find anything.

  3. Oppar didn’t mean it.

  4. Is it bad if I say that my opinion of him has improved tenfold from knowing this fact? I mean, Brave Brothers was a badass. I guess he thinks that this will inspire some kids to drop crime for creative and expressive outlets, I don’t know.

    • the problem is that he still seem to think fondly of his mobster days and keeps glorifying it on TV, so I’m not sure how that helps encourage teenage gangsters to change for the better.

      • it does to a point: it says that there is still life beyond that chaotic world. if he managed to get that far, then there is still hope for others.

    • Probably wouldn’t seem so badass if you met the dozen people he assaulted.

  5. Wasn’t he once an in-house producer for YGE. Maybe they needed some street cred to seem more “legit.”

    • Yeah but he left and started his own company. Shocked Teddy Park hasn’t done that.

  6. I am sure he has STDs.

  7. I thought Hyuna was the 0.01 % of the 99.9 % of free STDs in Korea

  8. This is news? I thought it’s been mentioned several times that he had a delinquent past. Either ways, I don’t think any less of him, I think most of his music is pretty good.

  9. Guys, I’m having a really hard time rationalizing the BE CRIMINAL -> HEAR CYPRESS HILL -> GO LEGIT flowchart/

  10. I remember this story. Things sure do change….or do they?
