A couple weeks ago, Park Si Hoo‘s legal troubles ended with the resolution of a libel suit against him. Pair that with his accuser in a sexual assault case dropping her charges against him, and one would think he’s free and clear. In reality, though, him and his image are anything but clean.
After some silence, news has come that Park Si Hoo has been cleared of charges in his last remaining lawsuit filed against him by his former agency CEO Mr. Hwang.
The actor’s reps wrote on the actor’s fan cafe, “Mr. Hwang filed against Park Si Hoo for libel, but the prosecution has cleared the charges. With this, this case is now completely finished.”
To recap, the actor was sued by a trainee ‘A’ for sexual assault, and soon after, various individuals became implicated in the matter, complicating the issue with lawsuits being filed left and right. The situation seemed to come to a close when ‘A’ decided to drop all charges, and Park Si Hoo in turn dropped his lawsuit against her.
With this, all the little lawsuits between the actor and ‘A’s friend ‘B’ and so on were also dropped, but one lawsuit remained – the one filed against the actor by Mr. Hwang. Park Si Hoo had accused Mr. Hwang of working with ‘A’ to frame the actor, and had filed a suit against him. In response, Mr. Hwang had filed against the actor for libel.
However, since that lawsuit is now also over, according to Park Si Hoo’s reps, the public is wondering if this means the actor will be planning for a comeback to the entertainment scene.
Sure, he’s now legally clean, but morally? Who knows? It’s up to the general public to determine, and that’s his problem.
See, he’s been cleared of wrongdoing by the courts, but the same standards are not applied to the general public. Unfortunately for everybody involved, the media and the lawyers decided it was appropriate to try a rape case via releasing information to the public, so we know a lot about what happened that night. As such, people will inevitably come to their own conclusions, not only about what really happened, but also the reason the accuser dropped the case to begin with.
As a person with no skin in this game, it seems reasonable to conclude that something went wrong that night, and both Park Si Hoo and his friend should have walked away from the situation at some point. Given that ‘blood money’ settlements are still deemed appropriate for criminal sexual assault trials, and the fact that the case was suddenly dropped, it gives me enough pause to think PSH made it go away with money, no matter what “sources close to PSH” leak to the press to try and salvage his image. Remember, the police recommended charging him with rape and battery, so this was never a case that was built on fabrications, unlike what his defense now claims.
Essentially, based on what we know, if the public refuses to ever trust him again, it’s hard to argue against that feeling. Inevitably you’ll see a lot of his fans claiming that he’s a completely innocent angel, but this whole thing reeks of bullshit, and it’s hard to sympathize with somebody who claimed he would tell the truth, but upon having the case against him dropped, goes completely silent.
