In case you haven’t noticed, and it doesn’t seem like many in the K-pop world have, Jiyoung (formerly of KARA) has a hit digital single in Japan, called “Suki Na Hito Ga Iru Koto“, which is being used as the theme song for the drama of the same name.

The digital charts of Recochoku and iTunes are probably a better measurement of a song’s actual popularity in Japan compared to the Oricon physical sales, which is more based on fandom power. And on those two digital charts, she reached #1 back on August 15 with her song.

Recochoku:
1. JY – Suki na Hito ga Iru Koto
2. Namie Amuro – Hero
3. SMAP – Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana (single version)
4. SMAP – Orange
5. SMAP – Arigatou
6. Naoto Inti Raymi – Overflows ~Kotoba ni Dekinakute~
7. SMAP – Yozora no Mukou
8. [Alexandros] – Wataridori
9. AKB48 – Hikari to Kage no Hibi
10. Nishino Kana – Have a nice day

iTunes:
1. JY – Suki na Hito ga Iru Koto
2. Namie Amuro – Hero
3. RADWIMPS – Zen Zen Zense (movie ver.)
4. [Alexandros] – Wataridori
5. Naoto Inti Raymi – Overflows ~Kotoba ni Dekinakute~
6. Walkure – Zettai ReidoθNovatic
7. whiteeeen – Kiseki ~Mirai e~
8. Walkure – Hametsu no Junjou
9. Nishino Kana – Have a nice day
10. Keyakizaka46 – Sekai ni wa Ai Shika Nai

Impressively, over two weeks later, Jiyoung still registers as #1 on both charts … oh wait, no she doesn’t because RADWIMPS composed for ‘Your Name‘, which is unstoppable. Still, it’s quite a remarkable (and surprising) turn for her.

I liked Jiyoung, so I had nothing against her, but when KARA split up, I just honestly didn’t see how a solo career would work out for her. Yet, here we are in late 2016, and she has a hit song in Japan and is continuing to score quality acting gigs.

I just wish the netizens that hated on her nonstop for stupid as fuck reasons knew more about it, just for the messy replies.
