The Barberettes usher in the holiday spirit with “White Blanket”

The Barberettes waste no time reminding us that it is officially December (yes, really) in “White Blanket.” Gilgu Bongu‘s soulful voice and The Barberettes’ sweet signature harmonies warm your heart with a melody that feels classically Christmas.

I’ll keep this short because I’m assuming most people won’t give a single shit about this song. I find it pretty rare to find new Christmas music that I actually like. Maybe I’m old and jaded, but most new Christmas music either doesn’t feel like Christmas music to me, or is so generically Christmas that it makes me want to hit the ‘Next’ button until a classic comes on. This song surprised me because I feel like I could incorporate “White Blanket” into any Christmas playlist filled with classics and it would fit in perfectly, but it’s also a Christmas song that I feel can stand on its own as genuinely enjoyable.

As for the video, it wasn’t anything to write home about, but appropriately themed. The changes in mood followed along with the song’s melody; nostalgic and melancholy when it called for it, but mainly cheerful and light. I liked how they kept the trio as the main focus, as well.

Let the holiday season begin!
