BTS’s ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 135,000 units

BTS‘s album ‘Love Yourself: Tear‘ has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the first time a K-pop artist has ever done so. The previous high was, of course, BTS’s ‘Love Yourself: Her‘ at #7. The most impressive thing is probably the jump in sales, as they are up to 135,000 units with ‘Tear’, whereas ‘Her’ debuted with 31,000.

Of Love Yourself: Tear’s starting sum of 135,000 units, 100,000 were in traditional album sales, 26,000 were in SEA units (equaling 39.1 million on-demand audio streams for songs on the albums) and 9,000 TEA units.

The previous high-water mark was earned by BTS’ Love Yourself: Her (31,000 units in its opening frame, 18,000 in traditional album sales).

This is the kind of thing that happens when you let the Dodgers bless you.

Seriously though, the 100,000 units in traditional album sales is what’s rather staggering to me, as it more than quintuples their previous release.
