Mnet’s ‘Produce’ series is already in a world of shit due to alleged vote manipulation that occurred on ‘Produce X 101’, which led to accusations emerging about ‘Idol School’ as well. Now KBS is reporting that data from ‘Produce 48’ that was analyzed by math professors have led to suspicions about vote manipulating happening on that show as well.
When the finale vote counts of each of the top 20 “Produce 48” contestants are converted into percentages of the total vote count of 4,452,177, the percentages are all numbers that exceed 10 decimal places. However, when the percentages are rounded to the fourth decimal place, the third and fourth decimal places are zero for all 20 contestants. For example, the third place contestant’s vote percentage is 6.6199973631 percent. When this is rounded to the fourth decimal place, the percentage is 6.6200 percent. The fourth place contestant’s vote percentage is 6.4100102040 percent, and when this is rounded to the fourth decimal place, the percentage is 6.4100 percent. The case is similar for all 20 contestants. According to the math professors, the chance of this occurring is one out of 1038. In response to the reports, Mnet commented, “We are waiting for the investigation results.”
I was going to make jokes revolving around the percentages of 1038, but shit, that was too many zeros to write out over and over.
Anyway, the story here is not necessarily that anybody is surprised by potential manipulation, but what this might mean for the future of the series and whether Mnet is gonna get smacked a bit.
