So that’s a picture from director Kim Jo Kwang Soo‘s gay (no shit?!) wedding with his boyfriend and … uh … so yeah.

No matter how progressive you pretend to be, if upon seeing the picture above, your first thought is not “What in the flying fuck?” or raucous laughter, you’re lying through your goddamn teeth.

3) Please tell me they just got done fucking and nobody actually paid to have his hair styled like that. Looks like he just got fucked with head down, ass up violently against the headboard and immediately rushed to the photoshoot. Is it a wig? It doesn’t even look real. Nobody could have purposely styled that shit.

Also, I would have put my life savings that Kim Jo Kwang Soo was the bottom in this shit. My gaydar sucks.

The assembly of heavy editing and compression present in EXO‘s debut mini-album ‘MAMA‘ was a all-too-claustrophobic, pressurized listening experience that found a far more pleasant way of getting appreciated through moderation. That’s how it grew to become one of last year’s top ranked albums (by my account). And while the exact design has armed EXO again in their first LP, ‘XOXO (Kiss & Hug)‘, the breadth in room and pace alone has allowed for all of this album’s dynamics to soar and every slither of silence to crest.

In many ways, the sensational lead single “Wolf“, which opens ‘XOXO’, portrays the shifts in acceleration at play throughout this album quite well. ‘XOXO’ is reminiscent of the links in style and strong production value of f(x)‘s ‘Electric Shock‘ EP (2012); moreso than, say, the ‘I Got a Boy‘ LP by Girls’ Generation (2013), which had all the potential to do the same, with its ferocious lead single, but didn’t really get there in the end as a collective.

In all actuality, “Wolf” resembles the unconventionality of “I Got a Boy” (the single), in that it sinks its claws into one style of music one second without thinking twice to pursue another the next. The distinction here though is that there’s one theme present and a set of interlocking routes taken to bring it to life, whereas Girls’ Generation’s hit single, while balls-y and magnetic, pompously topples over itself from musical disconnect. The atmosphere is strong here and there’s a fierce blend of climactic technicality – major drops, a family of gritty synths, precise timing – and vocal acrobatics (Dear TVXQ‘s Changmin, Baekhyun‘s after your high C notes) that the rapid shifts in rhythm feel at least a lot more purposeful.

Kenzie, a long-time SM Entertainment producer/composer who’s had her hands dipped in SM’s discography just as deeply as Yoo Young-Jin (her contributions stretch back as early as BoA‘s “My Name” single and beyond) co-penned “Wolf”. Listening back to her most recent contributions, like f(x)’s “Jet” and “One More Chance” by The Grace-Dana & Sunday (2011), there’s a certain atmospheric grandeur in these songs evoked by clusters of noise being restrained and let loose in tightly gripped fashion. This effect overwhelmed in “MAMA”, partly for its haphazard arrangement, but is far more provocative and alluring here.

Still, “Wolf” is a lot to take in. There are times when the song becomes heavy and overly shouted, to where it disrupts that very delicate level in compression keeping it afloat. As operatic as it is, it does its duty in piquing the ears interest and an even better job of setting the tone for the rest of ‘XOXO’. Not only do we revisit elements introduced in “Wolf”, but do so in such precise fashion that we’re able to pick up completely new ones while maintaining a unity in the listening experience along the way.

“Baby Don’t Cry“, one of many points of anxiety for EXO fans, finally makes its debut as a full track on ‘XOXO’. Sung over a subdued piano riff and slick R&B arrangement, EXO present one of their strongest vocal performances to date. They may have recorded this years ago, but it’s only a testament to their talents and that of their production team by how immensely impacting it is, both aurally and emotionally. And even if we already had the knowledge of EXO’s vocal strengths (at least in the studio), the way EXO’s vocal leads in both subsidiaries is near breathtaking here. EXO-K’s D.O., Suho and Chanyeol are particularly moving in their performances.

It comes as a genuine surprise, actually, how emotionally mesmerizing this album is, especially coming from a group that is relatively new to the game, even moreso from a group under SM Entertainment – the juggernaut least cohesive in their LP deliverables. Although, it’s to SM Entertainment’s credit how well-rounded they’ve become in the last year (i.e., TVXQ, BoA, and SHINee‘s recent records). “Black Pearl“, the next track on this album, is just as spellbinding as the last. Carrying the dubstep undertones of the lead single and layered with crisp House details, this song is one of the strongest on ‘XOXO’. EXO-M shines beautifully on this one, as their version is incredibly smooth and overflowing with glimmering high tonalities, something their counterpart seems to lack in comparison. Though, the fact that there are two separate and very different halves serving the same material under one name gives the ear an interesting take on how each is able to handle and deliver.

“Don’t Go“, a generally basic pop mid-tempo, benefits from EXO-K’s melismas while remaining rather still under EXO-M’s care. On the other hand, EXO-M’s bright harmonies cause the light “Peter Pan” to ascend to sheer brilliance, where EXO-K weigh it down (ever slightly) with a far bolder set of vocals. There’s something to look forward to from both groups and it’s a treat when the songs themselves are as powerful as the ones chosen to appear on ‘XOXO’.

“Let Out The Beast” is a thundering up-tempo riddled with rapid off-the-tongue verses that sounds incredibly strong under both EXO’s. It possesses the perfect amount of kick and breathing room to land its emphasis in all the right places, and both EXO’s nail it. The same goes for “My Lady“, another fan favorite on this album; although this particular song speaks more about a song’s composition being so insanely stunning that EXO’s only job was to make it sound perfect: they do.

Explosions and expletives are as much a part of this album as its muted moments and you hear these two key elements bleed together in nearly every track with more purpose here than before. It’s for this reason why full length albums still hold an important, albeit diminishing place in the music industry. The art is in the vision, and to hear it realized in one mighty package is worth every spare second allowed to see it through.

Gavy NJ‘s Sihyun was detained for shoplifting recently, and she confessed to the crime. In itself, that earns her the name Sticky Fingaz and all other sorts of lulz, but what put it over the top for me was her excuse: her bleeding vagina.

The police revealed that Sihyun was caught by an employee after trying to leave the store without paying for about 300,000 KRW (approximately $266 USD) worth of clothing at around 3PM on June 10. The police reported, “Sihyun has confessed to trying to leave the store without paying. She did not give any reason why.” Currently, Sihyun has finished her investigation with the police and is at home. As she has admitted to being guilty, there will be no further investigation needed.

Her label said, “Recently, Sihyun has been depressed because of stress. It looks like she did it on impulse, combined with PMS. She finished her police investigation, and came to an agreement. She’s reflecting on what she did. She feels guilty for wronging a lot of people because of a mistake she made in one moment. She’s very sorry for worrying everyone.”

So why is this surprising? Because, if you recall, Sashihara went through a dating scandal/demotion because guys she was allegedly dating released pictures of her in her underwear, details of how she was in bed, and a bunch of other stuff.

Yet, despite that — and having the facial expressions of a rock — she moved up three spots. While I’d like to believe this is some progressive attitude among AKB48 fans, it just seems rather hypocritical. Given that as recently as a few months ago they were still treating Minegishi Minami as a super whore, and given the fact that she fell four spots in the rankings, it seems a bit odd that she’s been actively punished when she actually copped to the accusations and gave a real apology.

I really … I struggle to understand this logic. Much less how the hell Sasshi went through the scandal and somehow leapfrogged Yuko. Then again, I guess that’s my mistake, expecting logic from the delusional.

So recently in the news is a list of seven dramas with unpaid staff totals well into the seven figures, with eight total dramas listed.

People are understandably outraged, but my question is: “Where the fuck are these people when it matters?”

So that’s obviously a major problem, yet I would argue it’s not even the most significant. No, the biggest consequence of the system mentioned in that article is not the money, but rather the stress and disorganized nature of a lot of the sets. In short, they’re complaining that they don’t get paid AND they have to deal with as bad or worse conditions than the stars do.

That’s the real problem. That the system is broken and people are starting to realize it’s unnecessarily harsh on everybody.

So obviously if someone were to step up and say ‘enough is enough’, it would gain support, right? No, of course not. Han Ye Seul was raked over the coals when she had enough, and two years later, it’s the same public opinion.

In reaction to the article about the staff, netizens are mad at both the companies and the stars, which is sort of the problem to begin with. They still don’t seem to understand that it’s the overall environment that’s problematic, the environment provided and created by companies and producers. The stars and staff all wade in the same septic tank waiting to be overworked or rushed to the hospital, so standing up for one group is the same as standing up for the other in this case.

With that said, how many of these netizens will remember the money trail and complaints now, but whenever future actors/actresses speak up because of the shit working conditions, how many will call the workers lazy or ungrateful or selfish?

How do they EXPECT and DEMAND change now, but when people stop to call out bullshit, they support the very system that makes these scenarios possible?

Doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result? Comical … if it wasn’t so insane.

Block B had been fighting to be released from their contracts with Stardom Entertainment, but Seoul Central Court recently dismissed their lawsuit, leaving them in an awkward situation.

The boys had filed an injunction against their exclusive contract back in January. Both Block B and Stardom Entertainment had gone back and forth, with both parties claiming what the other said was false.

However, the Seoul Central Court has dismissed their request, explaining, “From the evidence provided so far, it is difficult to claim that the label purposely did not pay Block B. It is also difficult to say that the label did not provide proper facilities such as studios and dorms, and it is also difficult to say that they did not provide education and guidance. From written records, it cannot be said that Stardom Entertainment violated their management obligations.”

The court added, “There is a possibility that the musical income of 430,000,000 KRW (approximately $385,000 USD) and the event income of 5,000,000 KRW (approximately $4,500 USD) was not properly taken care of. However, from just the evidence provided, it cannot be said that the label purposely kept the money from the members.”

Finally, the court said, “The label has promised to pay the members the part that they have not been paid. There is a big probability that the unpaid fees will be paid. It is difficult to say that the exclusive contract has been nullified because of a violation of management obligations.”

So what led up to this? Quite a lot, actually.

First, news broke that Block B were suing their company for lack of payment, but all they wanted were their contracts nullified. Then they revealed their detailed complaints against Stardom Entertainment. In their initial response, Stardom admits that money was stolen, but denied all other charges. The two sides obviously couldn’t settle, so they took their case to court.

After this time, it was revealed that Stardom Entertainment’s belief was that there was a mastermind behind Block B’s contract nullification request. Interestingly, the company placed almost no blame on the group themselves, but painted them as victims of the higher power misleading them. The company also released an extremely detailed blow-by-blow rebuttal against all charges against them. Block B’s lawyers, of course, had a rebuttal of their own.

During all of this, Stardom changed legal representation. Meanwhile, they were sued by a concert production company, called Show Note, over failure to fulfill what was promised to them. Even while all of this was going on, Stardom had plans to debut a new male hip-hop group, which seemed to be an ominous sign for Block B.

Then the controversy really got real and kicked up a notch (not in a good way) when Stardom’s former CEO killed himself admist this controversy.

And now we’re here.

So, where does that leave us now? Well, the court’s ruling is a bit weak, to say the least. The way it’s worded, it sounds like they don’t agree with their own decision, but Block B’s side didn’t provide enough evidence to fully convince them. The use of the words “difficult” and “possibility” is telling, especially since they basically admit that it’s likely money was unfairly withheld. Overall, it’s an extremely loose ruling, which is generally the opposite of how the courts want to come off to the public, and this just seems begging for an appeal.

With that said, if Block B ends up stuck with Stardom Entertainment, as it seems they will be, this becomes extremely awkward. I think Stardom will treat them right in terms of releasing music, because they aren’t letting a cash cow go to waste, but as far as behind-the-scenes punishment? You have to know that’s gonna happen. Though the agency has gone out of its way to not blame the group themselves, this has been a PR disaster for both of them (culminating with the suicide), and surely there aren’t just open wounds, but infected gashes about to get gangrene. And I wouldn’t be surprised if shit starts getting amputated at some point.

JAV star Yuma Asami recently announced she has ovarian cancer. Her exact prognosis is not clear, but it was advanced enough that they had to remove her uterus and ovaries.

Popular adult video (AV) starlet Yuma Asami announced via Twitter on Thursday that she had a medical procedure earlier this year to treat cancer, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 7).

The 26-year-old Asami (@asami_yuma on Twitter) said in a tweet that she had surgery to remove a tumor discovered in one of her ovaries and that she was currently undergoing medical treatment.

The Sankei cites a person familiar with the matter who says that Asami began suffering from stomach problems in January. A subsequent MRI exam revealed that she had ovarian cancer. On February 27, doctors removed her uterus and ovaries.

In a subsequent tweet on Thursday, Asami indicated that she was very pleased to receive words of encouragement from her fans. “I’m working hard to move forward, and am looking forward to hearing from you,” she said.

Survival rates vary widely depending on exactly what type of cancer she has.

Why is this news? Because in all the K-pop/J-pop hype, here’s one star that truly has international reach and appreciation.

So far we’ve had Girl 2 lady, Gem, Bitter & sweet, Lovebox, Jewel and Fortune. I vote her next album will be titled Vajazzle or Diamond. Or be a 2 disc album Diamond vajazzle.

Beni bludgeoned me within an inch of my life with her Covers albums. So I’m all for some new material. If Beni can give me that new-new which is on a level with Jewel, then I’ll be a happy bunny. Dat album was my shit. (“See U again” is my jam!)

I hope she isn’t expecting this new album to stick in the charts in the same way Covers did though, otherwise she’s going to have a slap in the face’s worth of an awakening.

EXO has recently comeback to the idol scene, and their fans are fucking thrilled about it. So much so that they stampeded while getting ready for SBS‘s Inkigayo, which was captured on film.

The look of urgency, terror, and desperation in their eyes is truly admirable.

We’ve all heard and/or seen these scenes before, so it shouldn’t be borderline terrifying, but it is. It legitimately looks like people just saw Godzilla attacking or that the storm from Day After Tomorrow is about to shit on their entire existence.

The dedication is scary in more ways than one.

Then there’s the ongoing argument in the YouTube comment section, which is hilarious in itself.

Basically, as you can see at the end of the video, the videographer got slapped for filming EXO fans, basically because of the concern that people would write words like the ones I just wrote. So they didn’t like the potential for making EXO fans look bad and they thought she lacked manners for taking video of them.

The problem, of course, is that censoring this video wouldn’t change a thing. There isn’t one person into K-pop, international or domestic, who doesn’t know that K-pop fans around the world are bordering on insane psychopaths. Furthermore, the whole “manners” argument is hilarious because since when is it appropriate to smack the shit out of somebody for recording video in public? Bitches be lucky that the video taker wasn’t some of the women I know, or they would have got blasted in the face with a quick left hook and a right Mike Tyson-uppercut, no doubt.

So on both fronts, in their quest to censor a person, it only further exposed the world to their lunacy and confirmed what everybody already thought/knew. Job well done.

EXO fans are the best.

So remember that T-ara N4 performance that didn’t go as planned? Well, turns out it was a bit worse than it seemed in that video, and while many blamed the DJ, it appears to have actually been Chris Brown‘s doing.

Originally, Core Contents Media had claimed that the video that had surfaced was their first performance and that Chris Brown had come on to their second performance and introduced them (you can check the video out here). But now a new video of another performance has surfaced where the girls were cut off rather rudely by Chris Brown.

The girls had been performing to their song, but suddenly Chris Brown cut in, demanding that the DJ cut the music off to promote his new song, saying, “My new single featuring Aaliyah is called ‘They Don’t Know’,” and continued to talk as the girls looked on, confused.

He only started the music again once he was done, and once the music came back on, it started at the cut off point, making the girls scramble back to their places.

When the girls were done (again cut off prematurely), someone even shouted, “Boo, get off the stage!”.

If you’re shocked by the fact that Chris Brown acted like a prick … well … you’re an idiot. Regardless, still have to feel bad for them since it was the wrong crowd entirely. As everybody said, it was just a dumbass move to book them for that.

The funny thing? CCM actually admitted that they are a fucking failboat.

CCM said, “We’re flustered as the label, as well. We think there was some mix up and it happened because the concept of the concert was different. It was something promised from the beginning while we were talking details on recording ‘Countryside Life’ with Chris Brown. Even the label won’t know what really happened until after the American promotion team arrives on the evening of the 29th.”

They added, “We were told that they’d be opening for a concert, but it was actually more like a festival-type event. It’s true that Chris Brown and Wiz Khalifa planned the concert. The video is of their first performance. In their second performance, we heard that Chris Brown came out to introduce T-ara to the crowd.”

Japan’s most miserable pop star Amuro Namie will release her 10th studio album Feel on July 10th. Of course, she will do fuck all to promote this album, but that will be because she’s too busy running a record label. Yes, you read correctly. Namie is now the manager of her very own label, called Dimension Point, and her new album will be the first release off of it.

Namie had expressed on several occasions that she would love to be able to nurture and release new talent, and she is now in a position to officially do that! The label is owned by Avex, but Namie will manage it.

Feel will release in 3 editions, each one having its cover represent the proverbial mantra of the three monkeys: See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. And in a odd connection (which was probably unintentional), Namie was once in a group titled Namie Amuro and the Super monkey’s. Namie is so meaningful and shit. The artists she signs to her label are going to be such lucky bitches.

Namie Amuro will also be embarking on a Feel tour 2013 which will visit venues around Japan from August to December. It will be exactly like her last 20th anniversary tour, except with a few new songs. Once you’ve seen one Namie Amuro tour, you’ve seen them all. She wears the exact same ruffled skirts, the same tired arse boots and guaranteed there will be at least one section in the show where she dances with pom poms.

So I watched CL‘s “The Baddest Female” music video, and although I’m backlogged with a ton of stuff I need to write about, I had to get thoughts on this because … I’m confused as far as how I feel about this.

When you start the video, the first thing that jumps out at you is the production values.

It really is a visual treat from start to finish, as the sets are simple, but clean and polished, and there’s enough going on to make it look like a ton of money was thrown into it. Hell, it’s nicer than most of what you would see anywhere, not just Korea or Asia, so that’s obviously a plus and it helps with the concept.

However, while that’s inspiring and all, there were so many moments I just found awkward.

I knew this might be a fail boat when she says “chain swinging left, right” and the video shows the chain swinging from her right to her left.

But then there’s this stuff:

You know how rappers are always fighting over street cred and how getting arrested for smoking weed and beating the shit out of people actually is a net positive for their careers?

Well, these sections of this music video is why.

I just … I mean, you can be a badass without being a gangster, but if you’re going to act like you roll hard and roll deep … maybe it’s best not to come from an idol background? I mean, I think even G-Dragon knew this in his “One Of A Kind” music video, where the concept is vaguely familiar but most of what he did was poking fun at either himself or just at other stuff in general.

So while I know this is just a concept for CL, how the fuck am I supposed to buy that she’s hard when she grew up in a dance studio? It’s always going to be a bit cringe-worthy to see this kind of stuff, like trying to take Aubrey Drake “Last Name: Walking, First Name: Never” Graham seriously when he tries to go hard on a track.

Just … no.

The song didn’t seem to agree with me either.

I’ve never been hyped on her as a rapper, as she is what she is in the context of 2NE1, but given her rabid support, I expected an aggressive song, not a Ma$e-esque I-couldn’t-afford-hooked-on-phonics flow.

Like it’s not a bad thing when paired with the music video, but as a standalone track? It’s just a mediocre hip-pop attempt that borders on spoken word.

So my end impression was that like a lot of things from YG Entertainment, there was a lot of flash, but not much fire. But I think the imagination and the message will get people to buy in that normally wouldn’t had it not come along with this music video.

I don’t hate it, I just … I don’t think it generated the response from me that it was supposed to, and I LOVE most tracks that have the general message of “I do what I like” or “fuck all y’all”.

An unnamed actor was recently charged with sexual assault, which is terrible, but the Korean media decided to exacerbate the situation, like they do with everything else, by dropping not-so-subtle hints regarding the identity of the accused.

It’s been revealed that the actor charged of sexual assault was part of SBS’s drama “Yeon Gae So Mun,” which was aired in 2006.

On May 23, Seoul Gangnam Police Station reported that actor “Choi” (age 37) met female “A” (age 28) through an acquaintance. After having drinks on January 10, the two went over to his house in Cheongdamdong where she fell asleep and was sexually assaulted.

In the middle of February, “A” filed a complaint against Mr. Choi. He was arrested on May 13 for investigation and was officially charged for sexual assault on May 16.

The only 37-year-old male with a last name of Choi in the cast of that drama is Choi Kyu Hwan, so it could not have been more obvious who they were pointing to.

I have no idea about the case, so I’m not going to speculate on that. Generally speaking, though, there’s a reason why the details of cases like these are kept under wraps, because it’s an extremely serious matter and it’s not beneficial to either side for this to become a public spectacle in the vein of Park Si Hoo‘s case.

I understand that high-profile court cases usually have the celebrity’s name leaked, but this is just another example of a lack of control. Obviously they didn’t feel comfortable straight-out publishing the information, so they went the cowardly route by overtly hinting at it.

It speaks to a larger problem, because they’ve gone as far as to hint about the identity of victims as well, in addition to basically holding public court on these cases, which is just bad practice. I honestly have no idea how leaks like these are acceptable, but it’s pathetic.

If you hadn’t heard, Son Ho Young‘s girlfriend recently committed suicide, which was likely already difficult enough for Son Ho Young himself to handle. However, on top of that, the media has been playing an active role in connecting him with the suicide by continuing to harp on the fact that she mentioned that she felt disappointed by him in her suicide note. So they essentially tried to scapegoat him for her death when he had nothing more to do with it than typical relationship problems.

Which leads us into what happened next, which was Son Ho Young trying to kill himself the same way his girlfriend did.

In the early morning of May 24, Son Ho Young attempted suicide using the same method as his deceased girlfriend. According to the police, he parked his car in a public parking lot in Seoul and lighted a coal briquette, intending to kill himself of gas poisoning. However, the inside of the car caught fire, and Son Ho Young was able to get himself out of the car. Fire fighters were called immediately by a passerby.

Son Ho Young is currently being treated at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Many feel that this attempt was made due to the tragic death of his girlfriend, as well as the malicious rumors and comments that followed afterward by the netizens.

See, all this crap we talk about netizens, questioning why they have power over celebrity’s lives, is generally meaningless. I mean, who cares about concepts or whatever bullshit like that, but once the same attitudes carry over to the serious subject matter, that’s where it becomes truly ridiculous and utterly dangerous.

Straight to the point, the media are absolutely complicit in his suicide attempt. They are giving the netizens power, and in this case, they acted on their own as well in their treatment of the story, showing absolutely nothing resembling journalism ethics, which again causes me to question where the fuck they learned how to do their job.

Fortunately, despite all this, Son Ho Young is doing well following the suicide attempt.

An official at the hospital Son Ho Young is staying at informed Star News of the singer’s current condition, “Son Ho Young is improving. I haven’t seen him eat yet but right now he sleeping well.”

This attempted suicide happened two days after the suicide of his girlfriend. On May 21 his non-celebrity girlfriend was found dead in his car with a bottle of sleeping pills, a burnt coal briquette, and a suicide note. The autopsy report revealed that she died of gas poisoning. Son Ho Young was questioned, along with her family members, and then released. He attended her funeral with her family members.

On May 24 around four AM Son Ho Young had parked his car in the parking lot of Onnuri Church and lighted a coal briquette, intending to kill himself with gas poisoning. At one point something caught on fire which caught the attention of a passerby who alerted the police. News program MBC News Desk revealed footage of the burning car when the officials arrived.

Glad to hear, but somebody needs to wake the fuck up.

The really disturbing thing is that this is far from the first time the media and netizens have injected themselves in to a sensitive situation and driven celebrities to suicide or suicide attempts.

And I don’t mean just putting them under the spotlight, which is fair game for any celebrity, but rather actively trying to destroy them as people during horrific personal times and trying to cause as much emotional distress as possible. It’s truly bizarre that everybody seems to find this acceptable in the media, or, at the very least, they sit idly by doing nothing.

Journalism should be about finding the truth. Sometimes the truth can be dangerous, but the goal of the endeavor itself should never be to cause as much damage as possible. That’s not journalism, it’s being a sociopath.

So T-ara N4 did indeed perform an American “concert” at the Palms at a Memorial Day Weekend pool party that was headlined by Chris Brown.

Most importantly, they changed out of their ridiculous costumes/concept clothes and into more pool party appropriate attire.

Okay, so T-ara N4 generally went about it like SNSD‘s Hyoyeon in the club and were just dancing around not giving a shit, so I have to give them credit for that. However, it’s just … what the fuck was CCM thinking, though? This is a completely irrelevant gig in terms of their market and what they should be seeking out. It’s like they saw a chance to do media play in Korea and just diarrhea’d this out all over Las Vegas.

It’s unfortunate for the girls, really.
