SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan & TXT’s Soobin arguing over KARA’s “Jumping” is the most I’ve related to idols

Both Seungkwan of SEVENTEEN and Soobin of TXT are known for being girl group stans (and K-pop stans, generally), so it was a special treat to see them debating the topic like fans would on Boo Seungkwan’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo YouTube show.

I was actually surprised by how quickly things got “heated”, as after some friendly discussion, things kicked off right away when K-pop groups were brought up, specifically when it came to KARA‘s hit “Jumping“. Seungkwan choose the track as his favorite K-pop song, while Soobin didn’t even think it’s among KARA’s best.

Seungkwan: “Why? I don’t get it!”
Soobin: “The instrumental is really good, but the melody is, jeez, wasn’t the melody so carelessly composed?”
Seungkwan: “What are you talking about? Do you even know how those Sweetune folks came up with that topline melody?”
Soobin: “It’s too repetitive. The bridge part is repetitive, and the verse and chorus, too. All of it. Maybe they should have at least given variations in the lyrics.”
Seungkwan: “You don’t know its appeal.”

I’m with Soobin here. “Jumping” is great, but not even sure it’s in their own Top 5.

As the episode progressed, they also talked about Wonder Girls being Seungkwan’s favorite girl group, and he named SECRET, Nine Muses, and Rainbow as the others he stanned. Dude is basically a Sweetune stan, which makes him incredibly based. Meanwhile, besides KARA, Soobin choose Rainbow, Apink, and miss A.

They also go into detail explaining specifically what they like about the groups, and Seungkwan also dropped a CHI CHI reference out of nowhere. They released like three singles in two years over a decade ago. What a psycho, in the best way.

Of course, their favorite boy groups weren’t neglected, with Seungkwan going for INFINITE, BOYFRIEND, and B.A.P, while Soobin had BTS, B.A.P, and Block B.

Honestly the whole thing was just engaging, as I feel like we rarely see popular active idols discussing other popular (mostly) active idols like they are on Stan Twitter. This exact kind of discourse is what I see on my K-pop timeline, and thus it’s probably as widely relatable as anything. Reminiscing about collab stages from 2012? Two idols after my heart.

Anyway, whole video is subbed, and really the series is worth watching.
