Another day, another borderline surreal update on now-former ENHYPEN member Heeseung. And while I promise I’ll write about something else soon, I’ve been busy with personal stuff and still have found the mass derangement going on surrounding this consistently fascinating.
Anyway, the latest is that — in a move that will surprise nobody who still has their sanity — BELIFT Lab has confirmed that despite the protests going on, Heeseung will not return to the group.
“Heeseung will not be returning to Enhypen,” Belift Lab told The Korea Herald. “He has a clear artistic direction he wants to pursue, and we decided to respect that.”
The confirmation comes as fans — particularly international supporters — continue to organize large-scale campaigns urging the agency to reconsider the decision.
That might be the understatement of the millennia.
Not only are they sending protest trucks and all the typical fandumb shit, but they’re also harassing other groups on their own social media platforms to speak up about it like they have any control (“#ENHYPENIS7” is a hilarious hashtag at least), they’re harassing anybody close to the members as if they did it (like EL CAPITXN), and they’ve flown in from foreign countries to do in-person protests in front of HYBE. This is besides the obvious conspiracy theories floating around online, them making a mess for government workers due to misinformation, and all that other goodness that fandoms do.
I don’t know how, but their fandom has seemingly managed to piss off everybody over the years, which is coming home to roost now. And even for the people who felt bad for them at first (like me), they’ve already been united in telling them to get a fucking grip in record time now.
Not surprising when you consider they’re even trying to ignore hints from the members themselves, like Jay subtly addressing it…
🐈⬛ yeah, i just want to say like… there’s never gonna happen some situations i make you guys upset so don’t worry about that. i really hope you guys don’t worry about that. so yeah, i’m doing good. i’m doing well. i will do good and everything after that will happen from now. so… pic.twitter.com/R5faWMjopZ

…or Jungwon saying “it’s really nice” to a fan wishing him “good luck to the six of you in Australia“, before “clarifying” that he meant the weather.

Like throughout all this, my one constant thought has been, “What if Heeseung actually just didn’t want to be in an idol group anymore?”
That desire feels completely reasonable! It’s a lot of work for something you may not even really be into, and even the company has said their schedules are hectic. I’m not saying it’s the right or wrong career move, but can you imagine if this was Heeseung’s own choice (like it seems to be) and now he’s seeing all this going on? My god.
Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
