Some Canadian dude claims to have trademarked ‘Kpop’ & ‘Kpop Con’

I was recently tipped off that some Canadian dude named Gerald Belanger, who owns N+S Ultramedia and Pop Goes The World, is claiming to have trademarked ‘Toronto Kpop Con’, ‘Kpop Con’, and even ‘Kpop’. I thought I was being trolled at first, but then I went to his site and saw the image above, and then I saw the tweet below.

I’m not a lawyer, but this seems … well … comical, at best. At worst? It opens everybody up to future trademark trolling, which is essentially the worst thing.
