[Update] Suzy leaves JYP Entertainment, signs with Management SOOP

After nine years with JYP Entertainment, Suzy will not renew her contract with the company, according to a recent report. After a seven-year contract that ended in 2017, Suzy re-signed with the company for two years, but she will not do the same this time.

Depends on where she goes, but on paper the move makes sense as JYPE is surely busy on the music side of things with other groups and they were probably never the best solution for her acting ambitions. The report says she has a new agency lined up, so I assume she’s found one that can dedicate more time/resources to her.

JYPE has released a statement confirming the news.

Hello. This is JYP Entertainment. We are announcing that JYP’s exclusive contract with artist Suzy will end on March 31. We have had thorough discussions over the past few months, and we came to the mutual decision to not renew the contract. Following Suzy’s debut with the group miss A in 2010, she has worked her hardest in JYP while showing exceptional passion. In 2017, her contract was renewed once through our mutual trust, continuing our special relationship. We express our sincere gratitude to Suzy, who went through thick and thin with JYP for the long period of nine years from 2010 until now and provided the joy of growth together [with JYP]. In addition, we express gratitude to the fans who have provided generous love to all the achievements and challenges that JYP and Suzy have taken on together. Although our official relationship has ended, JYP will sincerely cheer on the path that Suzy will walk down in the future. Thank you.

Soon after that statement was released, it wasreported that Suzy would be signing with Management SOOP.

It was also reported that Suzy will join Management SOOP in April, and a source from the agency responded, “We are currently working out the details regarding our exclusive contract with Suzy.” Management SOOP houses several famous actors such as Gong Yoo, Jung Yu Mi, Seo Hyun Jin, Kim Jae Wook, Gong Hyo Jin, and more. Former JYP Entertainment actor Choi Woo Shik also signed with this agency last year.

So yeah, the company all but confirms she’s going to end up there, and it is indeed a place geared more towards the acting side of things.
