SM Entertainment, coming up with the perfect and shamelessly timed distraction from the ongoing mess with Red Velvet’s Irene, has announced the debut of a new girl group named Aespa. Fitting, since Red Velvet comebacks used to be timed to cover up negative news for other SME artsits.
Anyway, it’s one of those weird names that is baffling at first but eventually when they have enough stans everybody will just pretend its normal. I also refuse to use all lower case letters or my OCD will implode my brain.
SME later explained the name.
After SM Entertainment released a mysterious teaser and a logo for aespa at 1 a.m. KST, fans began speculating that the agency was teasing the debut of their highly-anticipated upcoming girl group.
Later that morning, SM Entertainment officially confirmed that aespa was the name of their new girl group and revealed that the group would be making their debut in November.
The agency also explained that the name “aespa” came from the words “avatar,” “experience,” and “aspect,” with the meaning of “being able to experience a new world through another avatar of yourself.” The word “aspect” also means that the group has many different sides.
I have no idea what the fuck that means.
