Shoo of SES got in hot water a while back for gambling, and she was recently sentenced to probation for going to Macau in order to gamble, but had charges for domestic gambling and fraud dismissed.
Shoo was under suspicion for having gambled millions of won in a casino in Macao several times since last year. While her other charges on fraud and domestic gambling have been dismissed, Shoo’s charge on habitual gambling in Macao was prosecuted after determining that it was possible to pursue the charge without exceptions.
Shoo received two years probation and 80 hours of community service.
The court declared two years of probation, with the possibility of a six-month prison sentence if she commits a repeated offense during her probation period, and 80 hours of community service.
Speaking to press about the sentence, Shoo was apologetic and believed the punishment was fair.
Shoo said, “I’m very regretful. I’m apologetic to my children and ashamed. I’m truly sorry to my fans who have loved me and everyone who stood by my side.” She continued, “I began [gambling] out of curiosity, but I was disgusted, angry, and ashamed to see how it was changing me. I couldn’t get out of it by myself, and I am finally out of the swamp with the punishment the presiding judge has given me and criticism from society.” Regarding her sentence, Shoo commented, “I think the punishment was very fitting. I will carry it out diligently.”
Laws are laws, so she knew the risk of what she was doing. That said, I honestly could not care less if she was gambling.
I mean it’s not a great habit to get into, especially if she was doing so beyond her means, but it’s not something I can drum up any outrage over or think she deserves whatever is about to happen to her career now.
