[Update] Jung Joon Young’s chats reportedly included discussion of criminal activity, such as sexual violence + he admits to crimes in apology

Following news of Jung Joon Young’s booking over his network of hidden camera group chats, it’s now being reported by SBS that the videos being shared may have been just the surface level. New group texts reveal conversations between the men where they’re discussing and joking about other criminal activities, and also sharing a video involving a group member (Mr. Kim) that the chat seems to describe as depicting rape.

On April 17 of 2016, a non-celebrity named Kim sent his own sex video. A participant labeled as “Singer Choi” replied, “What the, she’s passed out,” and Kim replied, “So what if she is?” Choi asked Kim “Send a (video) of a living woman” and Jung Joon Young said, “It was rape” with symbols of laughter. In other messages, an acquaintance described how he had had sex with a woman after giving her sleeping pills, and Jung Joon Young disparaged the woman. A reported message from Jung Joon Young also said, “Let’s all meet online and go to a strip bar and rape [someone] in a car.” This may be referring to an online game. An acquaintance named Park replied, “We do that in real life too, you know.” Singer Choi agreed, and Park added, “This is a movie. Think about it for five minutes. We just didn’t murder, a lot of bastards have gone to jail for that.”

So Jung Joon Young and those interacting with him in these chats were well aware of their crimes and the severity of them, but essentially treated these things like some kind of game. The hidden camera videos and pictures already had him in significant trouble with the law, but it seems like sexual violence charges could and should be next.

Update

Jung Joon Young has spoken up about his scandal for the first time and has admitted to his crimes in an apology.

I write to you in shame and guilt. I, Jung Joon Young, once again realized the seriousness of this situation after returning to Korea on March 12. Although it’s already late, I apologize through this letter to all the people who showed an interest in me and gave me a second chance. In regards to what is being said in relation to me, I admit to all my crimes. I filmed women without their consent and shared it in a social media chatroom, and while I did so I didn’t feel a great sense of guilt. As a public figure, it was an unethical act worthy of criticism, and such a thoughtless action. More than anything, I kneel and apologize to the women who appear in the videos who have learned of this hideous truth as the incident has come to light, and to the many people who must be angry at the situation over which they cannot contain their disappointment and astonishment.
I am withdrawing from all the programs that I was appearing on, and I will suspend all activities in the entertainment industry. I will now set down all my activities as a public figure that are not self-reflection, and I will reflect for the rest of my life on my immoral and illegal actions related to the crimes. More than anyone else, I apologize to the women who have experienced great suffering due to my actions, to the many people who must feel anger even more so than disappointment, and to the many people who made me into a public figure and cherished me. I will sincerely take part without any falsehoods in the investigations that will begin on the morning of March 14, and I will accept punishment for my actions. I once again deeply apologize. I am sorry.

Not sure how anybody can reasonably question the legitimacy of the group chats anymore.

This has been absolutely disgusting to cover and people need to just stop saying this is being all made up or whatever.
