Seungri now admits to all 9 charges and says he’ll reflect, gets sentence halved to 1.5 years on appeal

Back in August of 2021, Seungri‘s lengthy trial concluded with him being declared guilty on all nine charges and sentenced to three years in prison along with being fined ~$1 million. He appealed the decision and recently had his sentenced halved to 1.5 years due to him now admitting guilt on all charges and promising to reflect.

According to SPOTV via No Cut News, the High Military Court of the Ministry of Defense held Seungri’s appeal trial, where it was ruled that his prison sentence will be reduced to 18 months from three years. Seungri was originally sentenced to three years in prison plus a fine of ₩1.16 billion KRW (about $964,000 USD). During the appeals trial, Seungri reportedly admitted to all charges and expressed his intention to reflect on his actions. Seungri’s military discharge is currently on hold. He was indicted in January 2020, and on August 12, 2021, he was sentenced to three years in prison and ₩1.16 billion KRW (about $964,000 USD) in fines. He was charged with a total of nine different offences, including prostitution, prostitution mediation, embezzlement, violating food safety laws, habitual gambling, and violating the foreign exchange law.

Honestly, it’s rather ridiculous that he can get a significantly reduced sentence just for admitting what he vehemently and forcefully denied for so long and promising to reflect, but given that he lacks a criminal history it’s basically how things are in the Korean justice system. Obviously this outcome sucks as I don’t believe for a second that even everything he’s been convicted of is the extent of what he knew/did.

Perhaps the only silver lining to take away from this is entertaining ourselves with the knots his stans will be tying themselves into now that he’s copped to the charges, especially given the meltdown they had when he was convicted.
