Quick Reviews: BTS’s Jin pleasantly fits “The Astronaut” into a moody niche

It definitely sucks that solo debut of BTS‘s Jin comes as basically a hiatus song to fans before he heads to the military, as it feels like we still don’t know what direction he’d like to head with music.

Regardless, “The Astronaut” is a pleasant and satisfying song, seemingly aimed at sitting under the stars and just taking it all in (whatever it is). Thematically, Coldplay‘s involvement here is weirdly useful since the melancholy and longing is what’s appropriate, and indeed their sonic fingerprints are all over this. Sure, it’s not an explosive pop single, but it does have a niche where I could see myself listening to it, and that’s a lot more than I can say for a lot of releases.
