For a while now, WJSN fans have been speculating on the future of the group, and recently their 7th anniversary came and went rather unceremoniously from the company standpoint. However, there’s finally news on that front, as it was reported and subsequently confirmed by the company that Seola, Bona, EXY, Soobin, Eunseo, Yeoreum, Dayoung, and Yeonjung have all renewed their contracts with Starship Entertainment, while Luda, Dawon, Xuanyi, Cheng Xiao, and Meiqi have moved on.
Three of those departures aren’t surprising, as the Chinese trio of Cheng Xiao, Meiqi, and Xuanyi haven’t been with the group since 2018, but Luda and Dawon can be counted as relative surprises if the other eight choose to continue on. Still, this mostly seems like a win considering that there was legitimate concern they might be disbanded. Technically, I suppose the other five could still be in WJSN without being in the company, but that seems like wishful thinking for now.
Anyway, I’ve always generally enjoyed WJSN’s musical output, including their two subunits, and hopefully this means they won’t be relegated to the dungeon.
