In news that I’m only getting to now because it took this long for my brain to fully process, South Korea’s National Security Advisor Kim Sung Han resigned yesterday after it was revealed that he reportedly ignored at least six attempts by First Lady of the United States Jill Biden to get BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga to perform at the upcoming South Korea-US summit between Yoon Suk Yeol and Joe Biden.
According to reports, US first lady Jill Biden, who has an interest in Korean culture, suggested a joint performance by K-pop girl group Blackpink and American pop star Lady Gaga for a state dinner during the Korea-US summit. However, it appears the proposal was not properly communicated to President Yoon, resulting in the US government reportedly demanding a response from the South Korean government on several occasions due to a lack of feedback from the presidential office.
The secretaries of protocol and diplomacy, Kim Il-bum and Lee Moon-hee, respectively, have already been replaced in recent weeks.
I know, I know, surely this resignation is due to other more sensible reasons as well, but I don’t want to hear it.
The explanations I do want to hear have ranged from hilarious incompetence to fandom conspiracy theories to boomer sensibilities, and they are all fucking amazing just because we’re discussing BLACKPINK causing the downfall of a fucking National Security Advisor due to Jill Biden being a BLINK or some shit.
Anyway, I hope she enjoys her “Sour Candy” live collab performance.
