About five months after it was reported that former NCT member Taeil was under investigation for “aggravated quasi-rape”, he has now been indicted by authorities for the crime, though he has also managed to avoid being arrested.
According to legal sources on the 4th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Women and Children’s Crime Investigation Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji-hye) brought Moon and two accomplices to trial on charges of special quasi-rape under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act on the 28th of last month. They are accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman in June of last year.
The lack of detainment is due the Taeil and his alleged accomplices reportedly admitting to the crime, thus not making them flight risks, I guess.
In June of last year, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station, which received the victim’s report, applied for an arrest warrant for the three suspects. However, the court dismissed the request, citing that the suspects had admitted to the crime and therefore did not require arrest. Ultimately, the police summoned Taeil for questioning in August, two months after receiving the report, and referred him to the prosecution in September.
The suspects claim that the crime was not premeditated. Unlike his accomplices, who appeared for questioning at the prosecution, Taeil refused to comply with the summons, citing health reasons. It has been reported that he submitted a medical certificate and a lawyer’s statement.
Notably, Taeil is already going with the typical “woe is my health” shit for the court, presumably hoping for leniency as he faces anywhere from seven years to life in prison.
Either way, many have been asking about updates on this, and while their concerns are understandable, as I’ve said to them, there’s not much to report on here until there’s progress in court. One of the reasons stories like this get put into the media is because of some kind of denial or other victims come forward or something like that, but there thankfully wasn’t any of that here, so I’d rather the authorities just take their time and get it right.
