Back from hiatus and back to legal news, as OMEGA X‘s Hwichan was thankfully cleared of baseless allegations of sexual assault made by SPIRE Entertainment‘s former CEO (Kang Seong Hee).
In the official statement from the group’s current agency, IPQ say prosecutors cleared Hwichan due to insufficient evidence, which makes sense since this was mostly a ploy to redirect the narrative surrounding OMEGA X’s abuse case. Despite the serious nature of the ex-CEO’s allegations, it was clear from the outset that something was off about her story. The inherent power imbalance and her history with the group made coercion much more likely, and the texts release that followed all but confirmed that to any reasonable observer.
As far as the details of the case goes, IPQ and Hwichan repeatedly requested the full and unedited CCTV footage of the alleged incident, but it was never provided.
On March 19, 2024, Spire Entertainment, the former agency of OMEGA X, held a press conference and filed a criminal complaint against its former artist Hwichan, alleging charges of forcible molestation. At that time, Spire claimed to present CCTV footage as evidence to support its allegations; however, the footage was only partially disclosed and had been edited, and the complete original footage was never released.
From the early stages of the case, both Hwichan and IPQ continuously requested, through investigative authorities, the submission of the full, unedited CCTV footage. Nevertheless, throughout the entire police investigation and inquiry process, the complete CCTV footage was never submitted nor verified even once.
As a result, after a prolonged investigation, on December 11, 2025, the prosecution rendered a decision of non-indictment due to lack of evidence regarding Hwichan. This decision clearly confirms that there was no objective or credible evidence sufficient to substantiate the allegations.
Not hard to imagine why.
Nevertheless, the ex-CEO is apparently going to continue with further legal action regarding this matter.
For approximately one year and ten months, Hwichan endured severe social stigma and profound mental distress due to allegations that were inconsistent with the facts. Irreparable harm was inflicted not only upon him but also upon all OMEGA X members and their families. Despite this, a former executive of Spire Entertainment has announced intentions to pursue additional legal actions, such as filing objections, even after the non-indictment decision. IPQ finds it deeply regrettable that a matter already concluded by investigative authorities continues to be repeatedly raised, causing further suffering to the artist and the group as a whole.
This makes sense if you understand the goal likely isn’t to win but to punitively harass the group and muddy the waters of public opinion. Obviously, for her to leverage sexual assault in that way — while she’s the one facing indecent assault charges of six OMEGA X members and has already seen the court acknowledge their abuse — is beyond the pale, but of course people like her can only think of themselves.
In a general sense, even just Kang Seong Hee’s attempt at doing this is interesting to me. From the outset, this whole case was about as cut and dry as one of these could get due to it all originating from third-party physical evidence. Yet here we are over three years later with it still haunting the OMEGA X members and impacting their public perception. And all of this is from a relatively nugu company with minimal power, yet because they wanted to vindictively make the lives of their former group a living hell for as long as possible, even these small fries have the wherewithal to do so for years. Bleak.
Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
