An Instagram post by the initial whistleblower in the Burning Sun case recently targeted SNSD member Hyoyeon, and prompted responses from both SM Entertainment and Hyoyeon.
Seemingly unprompted, Kim Sang Kyo (the whistleblower) took to Instagram and wrote a general screed against those he feels wronged him but oddly used Hyoyeon in the picture and mentioned her to start.

You were a VVIP member so I’m sure you saw it all, right Hyoyeon? Was the actress who was on drugs Ms. H or Ms. G. The guy who assaulted me while he was high on drugs was Seungri’s friend. You guys know it was that drug addict so why don’t you confess now since there’s not much time left.
Why did he assault me instead of a VVIP. Who is related to the Bitcoin Private Equity Fund. Why did the Gangnam VVIP celebrity who is related to the Octagon Club just watch while I was assaulted. There’s a lot of celebrities who are caught up in the Burning Sun Scandal and it’s only a matter of time before they’re all revealed. Unless you guys just come forward. Even now, I’m sure you are all hiding in a house somewhere doing all the drugs while filming it. Your chance is limited now.

Not sure I understand the Hyoyeon angle here. Even he doesn’t really accuse her of anything specific, just kinda assumes that she knows because she was there as a DJ. For a call out post years after the fact, it feels bizarrely like casting a wide net for fishing. I get his frustration, but still.
SM Entertainment then issued a statement about the post.
Hyoyeon’s agency SM Entertainment commented in response on January 14, “Hyoyeon only performed as she was invited to be a DJ for the event at the time, and she has no relation to this post. We ask that people refrain from speculations and misunderstandings.”
Hyoyeon herself then responded on Instagram.
So basically they are saying Hyoyeon just had an unfortunately-timed DJ gig at Burning Sun, took a picture with Seungri, and bounced after. While it’s possible other information could emerge, everything we actually know about her involvement (or lack thereof) points to what she says being the truth.
At the time this story broke, when everybody was being intensely scrutinized, her connection was resolved in like a day because CCTV backed her memory of events (as alluded to by netizens). Ironically, despite spending a lot of time sifting through the details of the Burning Sun case, due to her “role” in this case being resolved quickly and never appearing important, there’s nothing from Asian Junkie to cite since I didn’t even deem this story worthy of my time. And despite this now existing, that’s probably still true.
