In what feels like some kind of example of the relevance and/or utility of soft power, K-pop played diplomat recently as Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung played the Japanese-made Pearl drums to the tune of K-Pop Demon Hunters‘ “GOLDEN” and BTS‘s “Dynamite” during their meeting in Japan.
As absurd as it sounds, it’s no shitpost, as both of their official channels posted videos of the events to YouTube.
It almost seems like a surprisingly-pleasant union, as the two sides pledged to boost cooperation (along with China) at the summit, which would seem odd given their differing politics. It’s likely a pragmatic thing, because … um, well without getting too far into it, an increasingly unstable world leader and ally across the Pacific has seemingly almost forced them to prioritize shared economic and security issues.
