At some point in recent years, I stopped covering idols giving out whatever basic insight into the industry that they could because quite frankly it became somewhat common knowledge. Well, perhaps it’s the new generation or something, but it seems to be less known now how things operate, and so it might be time to post about that stuff.
In a stroke of luck, GHOST9‘s Prince Vatani did a new video (for his successful YouTube channel that I just found, mind you) answering fan questions that touched on a wide range of stuff.
Especially notable stuff to me (but not everything):
- Confirmed that music shows pay very little, and the point is simply to promote.
- Fancalls are not monitored by their own company, a third-party company oversees that. I can’t tell if that’s better or worse to have to do it with strangers in the room. New info to me.
- Said members tend to have an understanding even if they don’t get along, bonding from shared trauma, if nothing else.
- Doesn’t think there are NDAs to date and stuff, likely due to the idols both being at risk anyway.
- They don’t find the ending fairy stuff cringe or awkward, it’s more of an honor to get chosen for attention.
- Koreans haven’t been racist to him, though he does speak the language well enough that he can pass for a local.
- Their company actually had pretty extensive media training sessions where they would quiz them on what to do in certain situation and what not to address. I would pay to see these sessions in action.
- Said the idols don’t read their own fanfics and ships, then feeds into them by saying they all shower together at times.
- Not something he addressed on purpose, but he talked about how he doesn’t have group activities and isn’t busy, yet was still carefully counting the calories of the treat he has. Hard-wired.
- Ends by noting the company censored his planned two truths and a lie.
Definitely things that older fans probably either knew or assumed, but it’s always nice to get like actual first-hand knowledge. Appreciated the videos and other similar ones on his channel, and it takes a lot for me to admit that about a labubu hype beast.
Asian Junkie Asian pop. Without discretion.
