Deep Reviews: Lee Hi goes with pleasant and predictable on “Breathe”

While I realize me not enjoying Lee Hi‘s “Breathe” ballad won’t shock most, I wasn’t put off by it just because it was a ballad. Rather, what I didn’t enjoy was that it just laid down a completely average instrumental and let Lee Hi’s vocals dominate everything. Don’t get me wrong, Lee Hi sounded great and it was a pleasant enough song to play on a beach for a dying whale or something, but obviously vocal performance alone isn’t enough. While great vocals can enhance a listening experience, they don’t make a great song just by the virtue of the vocal performance existing on a track.

Not to worry, though, I’m sure later today or tomorrow one of my other writers will be along to disagree with me, so everybody can put away the pitchforks until then.
