BLACKPINK return with “How You Like That” and a hook that will probably end up weaseling its way into my brain

BLACKPINK are finally back with new music, and “How You Like That” will supposedly be just the first step of three from YG Entertainment for the group. Many reasonably have doubt about that, but for now at least there’s something new from them to be grateful for.

Honestly, I don’t have a ton to say about the song, which is why there isn’t an “official” review from me (also, I’m lazy and busy). It is essentially exactly what I expected from a BLACKPINK release, with all the positives and negatives that we’ve hashed out before (I’m generally agnostic).

I do think the chorus is surprisingly barren, but it does make up for it with the tone of the lyrics, which was best summarized by Jakob Dorof.

They’ll probably say it’s about the overall person or whatever, but paired with the visual treat of the music video, it certainly seemed to be about physical presentation and that made it almost better in a direct way.

Regardless, it’s quite remarkable that no matter whether you like the actual song as a whole, they at least consistently manage to at least zero in on a centerpiece that you’ll remember.

“Look at you, now look at me…”
