Rundown: IVE, Stray Kids, ZB1, Mark, D.O., The Wind, ASC2NT, more

Another week plus of releases, but thankfully it was at least a seemingly slow drip this time, so I didn’t miss a whole lot.

======

Doh Kyung Soo (EXO’s D.O.) – “Mars”

Inoffensive, soft, adult contemporary, which is fine. Feel like he has the capacity for more interesting stuff, but if he doesn’t care, then what do you do.

——

BM (KARD) (Feat. Jay Park) – “Nectar”

Not necessarily for me with the effects and all that, but it has a groove, I like BM, and I like that he provides some kind of like adult section within K-pop.

——

ASC2NT – “LOVE ME DO”

Missing a hook that brings everything together, but otherwise a promising debut just because it’s vocal and melody heavy.

——

Stray Kids (Feat. Charlie Puth) – “Lose My Breath”

It definitely sounds like Charlie Puth, kinda like when BTS started singing in English. Take that how you want.

——

ZEROBASEONE – “Feel The POP”

I’m literally always trying to feel the pop, but people keep releasing stuff like this.

——

WHIB – “KICK IT”

If you’re gonna do like harmless, chill pop, you have to make sure it’s not like completely forgettable.

——

DXMON – “Girls, Love Boys, Love Girls”

Same as above.

——

The Wind – “Sirius Pt.2”

An anniversary song that very much sounds like one they cobbled together for that purpose, if that makes sense.

——

IVE – “Accendio”

Better than “HEYA”, but certainly not among their best and it’s the standout visuals and choreography that really make this worth it. I’ve read the “Love Dive” on steroids comps, but I’d argue that song worked specifically because it was deliberate and had a melodic flourish that wrapped the chorus.

——

Mark (NCT) – “200”

Wish it leaned more into the grittier rock sound with the guitars that had some cameos, but ultimately it kind of cautiously backs off doing anything risky, which is basically the song in a nutshell as well.

Probably looking at ARTMS again separately, for better or worse. Uh, I promise those are being worked on.
