BTS’s RM & J-Hope face backlash for Chris Brown & Usher concert showing, and the group at large for promoting AI

As if they were purposefully trying to piss people off and reverse any positive PR they got from the Grammy decision, BTS have been criticized even within their own fandom recently for doing an ad for Google Gemini AI and also basically twerking for Usher and Chris Brown at their recent concert.

The AI thing was, quite frankly, not surprising. While there’s acceptance of it in the West, there’s definitely a loud minority who are vehemently against it at every turn, just in principle. For the most part in South Korea, and especially due to their corporate buy-in, there’s almost complete normalization. That’s why every K-pop company and group and what not have run into this criticism at some point. Of course, BTS are not supposed to be like every other K-pop group, according to their fans. Though I think those of us not deluded about it understand they are, so this wasn’t much of a surprise.

A little bit more of a surprise? RM and J-Hope being spotted at a joint concert between Usher and Chris Brown, both of whom have a laundry list of issues.

But things didn’t stop there, as their attendance was hyped up by the artists themselves, the two BTS members said they were honored to be there, and they happily took proof photos.

Hell, they went all the way to Canada to do this. Not even like it was in South Korea and they popped by or some shit.

You know it’s bad when even ARMY are wondering how they can reconcile taking a moral/ethical stance on the Grammys but then hauling off and doing all this. Personally though, consistency isn’t really something I expect out of celebrities even if it was about that, but I wasn’t really under any illusions to begin with.
